| | | | Member Spotlight! Kayla Joyner | | "A year ago, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, and like many new mothers, I found myself struggling to recognize the person staring back at me in the mirror. I was exhausted, emotionally drained, and unsure of how to prioritize myself while giving my all to my little one. | That's when I came across a workout program called New Beginnings. Something about the name spoke to me. I needed a fresh start, a chance to reclaim my strength and confidence. At first, I was hesitant. Committing to anything felt overwhelming with a baby to care for, but I reminded myself that I deserved this. I deserved to feel good in my body again. | | | | The first few weeks were tough. I was sore, I was tired, and there were moments I wanted to quit. But then something changed. The more I showed up, the more I realized this wasn’t just about working out, it was about being mindful of my habits, my thoughts, and how I treated myself. I became more intentional about my nutrition, my sleep, and even my self-talk. Instead of doubting myself, I started celebrating small victories, completing a workout without stopping, choosing healthier meals, feeling stronger with each passing week. | I pushed myself to stay committed, even on days when motivation was low. I reminded myself why I started: to be healthier, to have more energy for my child, and to prove to myself that I was capable of change. And slowly but surely, I transformed not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. | I understand now it’s not about my number on the scale, but my body fat percentage. I have more energy, more confidence, and most importantly, a deeper appreciation for my body and everything it’s been through. This journey taught me that taking care of myself isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. I am proud of the woman I am becoming, and I know this is just the beginning." | | TNBC Featured on PBS' The Good in Us! | Be a Part of Something Inspiring! |

| What inspired you to volunteer at TNBC?
"I have been blessed with the confidence, inner strength, perseverance, and humility that comes from participation in sports and athletics my whole life. I know those inner resources cannot be given but must be experienced, and I want women everywhere to experience the wide-ranging positive effects of being strong in body, mind, and spirit." | | | | How do you see TNBC making a difference in the lives of women in our community? "TNBC gives every participant the knowledge and support to make realistic and long-term changes to their daily habits that propel them on their health journey. The benefit of community support found here cannot be overstated!" | If you could describe TNBC in three words, what would they be? "Empowering, encouraging, effective." | What’s something you’ve learned about yourself since volunteering here?
"I am happiest when I am helping others." | How do you hope TNBC will grow or evolve in the next few years?
"I’ve seen amazing things from the women who fully participate in this process, and it would be wonderful for each of them to have the chance to serve as a support to new comers in some way." | Who is a woman who inspires you and why? "My mom. She not only participates in group exercise every weekday (in addition to hiking on weekends) but also has earned her certification in accessible yoga in order to accommodate all ability levels in her own classes. I love how she uses her energy and vitality to serve her family, friends, and community. Go mom!" | What’s a self-care ritual you swear by? "Daily breath work. No matter what a day holds, I find 5 minutes twice a day to take slow belly breaths, often visualizing something positive like “peace" entering my body and something negative like “control" leaving my body. Game changer!" | If you could train with any athlete or fitness influencer, who would it be? "Katy Bowman is a biomechanist who stresses the importance of nutritious movement. That boils down to ensuring each part of our body has the strength and flexibility to engage in a wide range of activities throughout our lifetime. I tend to get stuck in a rut with tunnel vision, and I need someone like Katy to widen my scope of what fitness means and how to achieve it." | What’s your favorite way to stay motivated on your own fitness journey? "My overarching goal with fitness is to stay strong and healthy so that I have the opportunity to make as many beautiful family memories as possible and be of service to as many people as possible with the days I have here on earth." | |

Word in the Gym:
Women Thriving,
One Rep at a Time!
| | "Nowhere else are you going to find a safe, fun, community engaging, women-only gym environment that offers continued classes for life after graduating the program. I'll forever be grateful for this facility and the women and sponsors that make it possible for us to be here." - Lesley | | "Today I am healthier, happier, and more fulfilled than ever before. I have maintained my healthy habits, continue to set and achieve new fitness goals, and have transformed my outlook on life. My journey is far from over, but I embrace each day with renewed purpose and determination. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that every small step forward is a victory. A new beginning is always possible- you just have to take that first step." -Lakeshia | | "TNBC taught me how to be intentional about my choices- what I eat, how I move, and how I take care of myself, inside and out. I've learned that wellness isn't just about working out or eating right; it's about creating a foundation that supports my long-term health, happiness, and peace." - Cynthia | | "This journey taught me that success isn’t just measured by the scale. It’s measured by the determination to show up, push forward, and celebrate every victory, big or small." - Shonnekia | | "New Beginnings provided me with innovative ways to approach nutrition, physical activity, mental health and self-care. The program’s weekly physical activity sessions and body scans helped me become consistent with strength training. The classroom sessions and the grocery store field trip have provided me with nutritional alternatives to implement in my daily life." - Angelita | | "Through TNBC, I was able to learn about how to actually eat healthy, how to care for myself, and how to find balance in my life. I really value the community that TNBC has brought me-I love surrounding myself with other women who are working on caring for and bettering themselves though movement. I love that while all of our goals and backgrounds might be different, we can find commonality through our shared experience in the program. Since finding TNBC, I've done Level 1 twice, Level 2 once (and signed up again), and recruited 3 friends to the program! I really feel a part of TNBC and can't wait to continue my involvement!" - Josie | | Goal Crushed, Match Secured! | |
Together, We Tripled the Impact!
Thanks to your support, TNBC not only met the fundraising goal needed to unlock the $30,000 matching grant from the Dettwiller Foundation- we nearly tripled it!
| This grant came with a challenge: raise new support to match the Dettwiller Foundation's generous gift. Because of our amazing supporters, we rose to the occasion and then some. The funds raised will go towards helping more women transform their lives through strength, confidence, and community. | Thank you for believing in our mission and being part of this amazing milestone! | | Now Enrolling for Our Next Session! | |
Our latest cohorts kicked off at the end of April, and we’re proud to have nearly 80 women participating in our current 12-week wellness program!
Classes are in full swing — and now, we’re gearing up for our next session: August 11th through November 5th.
If you or someone you know is ready for a fresh start, now is the perfect time to take the leap. Join a supportive community of women committed to building strength, improving health, and creating lasting change.
Empowerment starts here.
