FDOT to Host "All Things Brevard: Air, Space and Sea"
Central Florida Transportation Planning Group Meeting
The Florida Department of Transportation, District Five's Central Florida Transportation Planning Group, in partnership with the Florida LTAP Center, invites you to join the upcoming Central Florida Transportation Planning Group (CFTPG) webinar on October 29, from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM, to learn about the latest from Brevard’s Airport, Seaport and Spaceport industries.

This is your opportunity to learn about all the exciting happenings in the Space Coast of Florida and how the transportation system serves as the backbone for economic development.
You'll hear from distinguished speakers and an expert panel, including SCTPO Executive Director, Georganna Gillette.
2020 Multimodal Transportation Workshop Series
As part of Mobility Week, you're invited to join the Florida Department of Transportation for the 2020 Multimodal Transportation Workshop (MTW) virtual webinar series, from October 30 - November 5.

The series will feature expert panels that will explore how agencies and industries are responding to COVID-19 and implementing strategies to ensure long-term resiliency.

Each session will consist of a series of presentation coupled with a live Q&A session, where attendees will hear from local and national leaders regarding implementation of innovative practices and policies affecting transportation.
Love to Ride Florida Challenge
Joins us for the Love to Ride Florida challenge, a fun, free statewide competition for individuals and organizations to get more people riding bikes. The Love to Ride Florida challenge kicks off on October 30 and continues through the end of November 2020.

The challenge is open to anyone or any organization within Florida. Participants can register as workplace teams, social groups or as individuals. Registration for the challenge is now open at www.lovetoride.net/florida

SCTPO Governing Board Adopts 2021 Legislative Priorities
Each year, the SCTPO Governing Board adopts the Legislative Priorities and Positions. This document guides the political engagement efforts in Tallahassee. 

The SCTPO actively participates with both national and state advocacy organizations such as the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) and the Florida MPO Advisory Council (MPOAC) to advocate for additional funding to help advance the transportation goals of the SCTPO and the entire Brevard region.

Viera Construction Update
Lake Andrew Drive is now open from Viera Blvd. to Porada Dr in Viera.
This addition will spur more growth in the master planned community.
The continued opening of the Lake Andrew extension from Porada Drive to Judge Fran Jamieson Way is scheduled to open in four weeks.

Brightline Orlando Extension Construction Video Update
Check out this awesome birds-eye view video showcasing the innovative engineering that Granite Construction is doing on the #OnTracktoOrlando GoBrightline project along I-95 and SR 528. A conveyor bridge that focuses on safety and efficiency to bring high speed rail to Central Florida.
As of September 16, 2020, below is a list of updated construction work on major FDOT road projects. For more info visit www.cflroads.com.

S.R. 3 Christa McAuliffe Drawbridge over Canaveral Barge Canal- Bridge Lock Replacement & Fender Maintenance Projects
  • Project will begin the week of November 1.
  • This project requires alternating bridge closures that will begin when the project starts. When one bridge is closed, traffic will be moved to the adjacent bridge until work on the closed bridge is complete.
  • This project is scheduled to be complete in less than one year. (Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen events).

S.R. 518 ( Eau Gallie Boulevard) Resurfacing & Widening Project  
  • The improvements under this Contract consist of milling and resurfacing and widening S.R. 518 from 800’ west of Mosswood Drive to 120’ west of Stewart Avenue in Melbourne.
  • Work includes widening S.R. 518 to add a left turn lane, new sidewalk, new curbing, roadway striping, highway signing and drainage work.
  • There is currently a single, eastbound right lane closure within the project limits. This closure will be in place for up to 30 days.
  • Project began on October 5. This project is scheduled to be completed in less than six months.
*Schedules are subject to change due to weather/other unforeseen events

Drainage Improvements on U.S. 1 Rockledge 
  • This project is adding a new box culvert on U.S. 1 in Rockledge to help alleviate flooding that this area is prone to.
  • Northbound traffic is still shifted to the southbound lanes between Ernest Sands Road and Topsail Drive.
  • A traffic shift back to a traditional pattern with a single, left lane closure in both north and south directions is hopeful by the end of the month. Notification will be sent to stakeholders.
  • Project completion is scheduled for late Fall pending weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Intersection Improvements Hibiscus, Ballard and U.S. 192
  • This work is upgrading the signal system at three intersections on U.S. 1 in Melbourne. Mast arms will replace the current cable and pole system.
  • There will be daily lane closures at each intersection.

S.R. 405 at Sisson Road in Titusville Intersection Improvements
  • This project will add turn lanes at the intersection & mill and resurface the roadway.

S.R. 405 at Grissom Parkway, Barna Avenue & S.R. 50 in Titusville
  • This project will add turn lanes and upgrade the signals at each intersection. Single lane closures on SR 405 are expected near the intersection of SR 50.

S.R. 514 (Malabar Road) Widening from Corey Road to Weber Road
  • This project will widen a small portion of Malabar Road and add turn lanes.
  • No current lane closures.
  • Clearing and grubbing the area is complete.
  • Utility work including relocates are currently taking place
  • Traffic impacts include lane closures & two small detours.
  • Lanes and detours may only take place between 8 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.
  • Traffic impacts at least three weeks out.
  • Traffic Alert Notices are being created

Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Upgrades S.R. 3 (Courtenay Parkway) from Cone Road to S.R. 528
  • This project will install an ITS system along S.R. 3 to improve traffic flow and traffic signal data communication.

Oct. 2020: Pedestrian Safety Month
We've joined USDOT and NHTSA to recognize October 2020 as the first-ever National Pedestrian Safety Month.
Join us on social media as we share tips for drivers and pedestrians on staying safe on our nation’s roads. Pedestrian safety is a two-way street. Be sure to share the road safely with each other with equal respect, equal responsibility.
October, is Florida Greenways and Trails Month! Greenways and trails provide open spaces where individuals or families can exercise and relieve stress, while avoiding crowds and maintaining social distancing guidelines.

Florida’s award-winning system of state parks include 11 multiuse trails that are a part of a system of interconnected trails across the state. This system includes 7,500 miles of multi-use trails (paved and unpaved) for hiking, bicycling, equestrian and multi-use and 4,000 miles dedicated to paddling.
