Texting and Driving Now A Primary Offense In Florida
Florida lawmakers took a big step toward making our roads safer from distracted drivers. Recently, the State House voted  108-7  in favor of a bill that makes texting and driving a primary offense. That bill was signed by Governor Ron DeSantis on May 17, 2019.

The new law will go into effect on July 1, 2019. The provision regarding work zones and school zones will go into a “warning” phase on Oct. 1, 2019, with tickets starting to be issued on Jan. 1, 2020. Read full article .

Space Coast Area Transit Launches Read-To-Ride Program
May 31 - August 11, 2019
Space Coast Area Transit’s Read-To-Ride program is offered the day after school lets out until the day before school begins. Students under the age of 18 who show their free-of-charge Brevard County Library Card will receive free bus fare all summer long.

“Read-To-Ride emphasizes the importance of using Brevard County Libraries as a resource to enhance reading skills during the summer months. It also teaches students how to use the transit system by allowing them to ride the bus for free to the library, mall, beach, and numerous other locations throughout the summer,” stated Scott Nelson, Director of Space Coast Area Transit.

For many local youth, taking the bus is an alternative to being home bound over the summer. Bikes and surfboards are welcome on a space available basis. For Space Coast Area Transit maps and schedules, log on to or download the 321Transit app at the Apple App store, or on Google Play.
The Space Coast TPO is currently seeking feedback on its news distribution efforts. We'd like to hear your input on our current En Route Newsletter and ways we can tailor your transportation news. Please take a moment to complete this brief survey .
