SCTPO Staff Launches Simulated Distracted Driving Course at Brevard Public Schools Partners in Education Fair
SCTPO staff recently attended Brevard Schools Partners in Education (PIE ) kick off fair where they networked with over 70 school coordinators and local busniesses. New this year - staff walked attendees through a simulated distracted driving course using digital goggles.  ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿš˜๐Ÿ“ต
Public Meeting: Florida Coast to Coast Parrish Park Trailhead
Day: Saturday, September 7, 2019
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Location: Parrish Park, Titusville

CPH, Inc., an Architectural/Engineering firm contracted by Brevard County will hold a public meeting to present and discuss the proposed trailhead at Parrish Park. This project involves developing a trailhead along the Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail at the Parrish Park site. This meeting is to notify the public of the project and obtain input on the future improvements.

The proposed trailhead will include the design of a linear parking lot, sidewalks, connections to the Coast-to-Coast Trail, lighting, landscaping, and identify locations for future site amenities. The project limits are along SR 406 from approximately the east end of the A. Max Brewer bridge to the entrance of the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
SCTPO Public Involvement Officer Receives Rising Star Award from Space Coast Public Relations Association
Abby Hemenway, Public Involvement Officer for the SCTPO, was recently awarded the Rising Star Award by Space Coast chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA).

This award is presented to an active FPRA member of less than three years who has made significant contributions to the chapter and is also actively pursuing more leadership roles within the chapter.

Currently, Abby serves as the VP of Communications for the Space Coast FPRA board. Abby will be recognized at the chapter's PR Pro & Communicator the Year Awards Banquet , on Sept. 5, 2019.
SCTPO Supports CenterPointe Church's Back to School Bash
On July 20, 2019, SCTPO staff and an amazing team of volunteers from Turner Elementary helped fit and distribute 300+ FREE helmets to Palm Bay students during CenterPointe Church's B2S event. We love this community partnership event! We could not have done it without our partners, Palm Bay Police Department, who helped us coordinate the helmet fit station. More Photos

FDOT will hold an open house regarding the resurfacing project along North Courtenay Parkway (SR 3) from SR 528 to the Kennedy Space Center property line. A looping video presentation and project exhibits will be available for viewing and staff will be on hand for questions.

The purpose of the project is to mill and resurface the travel lanes, paved shoulders and medians. Bike lanes will be provided from S.R. 528 to Grant Road/Smith Road. The project will also include extending and adding new left turn lanes at various locations to provide additional storage.

FDOT will hold a public workshop to describe and illustrate planned improvements to the intersection of North Courtenay Parkway (SR 3) at Mustang Way/Lucas Rd. in Merritt Island. The workshop will be an open house format, where participants may review project documents and discuss the project with staff. 

The intent of this project is to improve the safety of the intersection by providing accessible pedestrian signal features and realignment of the crosswalk approaches. 
SCTPO Receives Bicycle, Pedestrian Safety Education Award
In July, the SCTPO was recognized by FDOT District 5 at the Statewide Bicycle &Pedestrian Safety Coalition Meeting for its robust bicycle and pedestrian safety education and outreach efforts.

The SCTPO focuses on educating all to improve bike and pedestrian safety. We are committed to running programs aimed to improve safety and to reduce traffic-related injuries and deaths. 

Our staff feels grateful to have established wonderful relationships with our local community agencies and safety champions, who continue to support SCTPO programs.
