SCTPO, FDOT, City of Satellite Beach Partner to Educate Public on Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons
The   Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization   recently partnered with the City of Satellite Beach, Satellite Beach Police Department, Alert Today Florida and the Florida Department of Transportation to host educational pop-ups at the newly installed rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) on A1A in Satellite Beach.

During the event, staff and volunteer cops educated citizens on how to use the traffic devices to help improve the effectiveness and increase safety. In addition, city police officers conducted enforcement citations and warnings to educate motorists.

"Educating people walking, biking and driving on SR A1A on how to use them helps us toward our common goal to improve safety and mobility," said Brenda Young, FDOT District 5 Passenger Operations Manager. "We enjoyed partnering together to talk to passers-by about how they work, collect their pledges for safety, and provide them with additional safety goodies including our Alert Today RRFB tip cards and lighted wrist bands."
Every traffic-related serious injury and fatality statistic is someone's loved one. A person with a name and a story. We need to strive towards a better system. Thanks for highlighting our goal,  News 13 !
