San Elijo Lagoon State Marine Conservation Area and Ecological Reserve Information and Update

Located along the City of Encinitas southern boundary, south of Manchester Avenue and San Elijo Avenue and north of the City of Solana Beach, the San Elijo Lagoon has both a State Conservation Area overlay and a State Ecological Reserve overlay within it (located on both sides of Interstate-5).

Please pay attention to the signage in and around the lagoon. It is unlawful to injure, damage, take, or possess any living, geological, or cultural marine resource for commercial and/or recreation purposes. Boating, paddleboarding, fishing, swimming, wading, and diving are prohibited within the conservation area and ecological reserve. Yes, this includes the inlet waterway near Cardiff Reef, underneath the S. Coast Highway 101 bridge, adjacent to the railroad corridor. There is no entry past this point from the west side of the bridge to the east side adjacent to the lagoon mouth. Please see the specific California Code Regulations (C.C.R), Title 14, Section 630 for the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and Conservation Area rules and regulations and Section 632 for Marine Protected Areas from California Fish and Wildlife.

Bike Valet Volunteers Wanted

The City of Encinitas, in partnership with the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce is looking for awesome volunteers to help out at the City-hosted bike valet at Encinitas Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

Help your neighbors ditch the traffic and parking hassle by providing a safe place for their bikes while they enjoy the festivities. Mid-day and afternoon volunteer shifts still available.

This is a fun way to support our community and promote sustainable transportation. Plus, you'll get a front-row seat to all the Oktoberfest action!

San Dieguito Garden Club Monthly Meeting Invitation

All are invited to attend the San Dieguito Garden Club monthly meeting. Upon completion of a social half hour and general meeting, the group will hear from lifelong Encinitas resident and Historical Society President Carolyn Cope. 

Carolyn will demonstrate the planting and care of bonsai plants. She will share her expertise and several bonsai from her collection. The club’s theme is “To cultivate friendship through gardening.”
