Encouragement Amid Political Tension

Dear BIC family,
Our world is loud with voices of argument and anger. We live and serve in times of political and cultural unrest and increasing polarization. BIC congregations and congregants are not immune from these tensions and pressures.
I could try to express the deep emotional turmoil many have felt over the past month, but much has already been said. So instead, I offer encouragement.
To pastors, in these difficult times, I want to encourage you in your sacred calling to be ministers of God’s grace, peace and reconciliation.
Your life, your witness, and your voice matter. May your proclamation of the good news of Jesus be strong and steady. Our calling is to be shepherds of the flock; may we listen well, speak with wisdom, and be examples of the love of Christ for all people.
Preach the Word boldly - in season and out of season. Plant the good seed of the gospel with compassion, courage, and conviction. Pray that the Holy Spirit will bring forth fruit. And in all of this, know that you are not alone.
To us all, amid pressures to take sides, I pray that we will all remember that our allegiance is to the Kingdom of God, a kingdom of truth, justice, mercy, grace, and peace. May we prioritize these values over worldly power, proactively demonstrating them to a world that so desperately needs them. May we fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
