End of January Updates
Dear Wonderful Families,

January brings the dark and cold, but at World Academy it is also always filled with joyful activities with an eye toward our Open House in April. Many classes are working on a continuum of projects that will culminate in April to share with families and friends at Open House, so please reserve Sunday, April 19th to spend some time in our “World” sharing their incredible efforts.

From robotics to basketball there is so much to celebrate with our students!! Kudos on the effort and energy put into the well-rounded, varied activities and congrats on our students’ consistent victories!! We thank our families for always being supportive and involved. Together we make a formidable team in the growth and success of our students!!! It’s a great time to be a NorthStar!!

On a health note...Please keep in mind that we are vigilant regarding illness at World Academy at all times. Currently, we are watching the suggestions from the Centers for Disease Control and the State of NH DHHS to maintain best practices where the Coronavirus is concerned. We will keep you posted if we are encouraged to do more than support serious hand washing and good health practices which we have been doing since the flu descended upon us. We will do whatever we need to do to keep everyone in our ‘world’ healthy.

Warm regards,
Kathy and Lisa for all of us

Vacation Program Sign-Ups
Our Vacation Program is a safe and fun option available to any Kindergarten through Grade 8 student (even those who do not regularly attend World Academy) who is looking for a fun alternative during school vacations. This program supplements the days outside of the school calendar so a separate daily rate applies. It is filled with lots of age-appropriate, fun activities for all ages and staffed by our World Academy team. In order for us to properly plan/staff our programs, advanced sign-up is required for the days your child will attend, and there will be no refunds for unused days. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come/first-served basis. Registration will close one week prior to the vacation day or once the spaces are filled.

Don't forget to sign up for the Winter and Spring Break Vacation Days! Winter Break is from February 24-28th and Spring Break is from April 27-May 1st.

This year,  the World Academy Alumni Association is celebrating the 40th year anniversary of the founding of World Academy by participating in a donation drive called "40 for 40"! Since 1980, the school has educated and nurtured over 20,000 students, and we would like to honor that accomplishment by paying tribute to the students, teachers, alumni and special memories from our “World!” We are aiming to attain 40 gifts in honor of the 40 years of excellence.  Please consider donating a gift of any amount to the WA Alumni Association . All gifts designated to the  “40 for 40” will go directly to the WA Alumni Association’s Scholarship Fund to support a quality World Academy education to even more deserving students.
Thank you to donor, the Chiodo Family , who made a donation in honor of their son and current student, Matty !

Please be sure to FREQUENTLY check the Lost and Found that is located adjacent to the Front Desk in the main hallway! We accumulate a lot of very nice missing items!

World Academy Robotics Team Showcases All-Around Skill at Recent Competitions
For the third week in a row the Splatforce Xtreme team took home top honors at a VEXIQ competition here in the Granite State. After taking home the Design Award in Durham two weeks ago, and a Robotics Game championship in Winnisquam last week, the team collaborated and problem solved to win in both categories at this week’s final event of the season, which took place in Hill, NH.

Splatforce Xtreme will compete in the State Championship in February and they will attend the US Championship in March. The team is also working to qualify for the World Championship in Kentucky in April.
NorthStar Basketball Division Championship Quest
Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Middle School Basketball Teams on making it to the Tri-County Athletics Championships again this year! On the road to the finals, the Girls were victorious over Weare and Hopkinton Middle Schools while the Boys’ team beat both Raymond and Hampstead Middle Schools.

The teams bonded over a pasta dinner as they prepare for their weekend games. Thank you to the Lynch family for hosting our players!

Please join us in supporting both NorthStars Basketball Teams along with the Spirit Squad this Saturday at Epping High School located at 21 Academy St. Epping NH. for the championship titles. Our Girls Team plays at 1:00pm, followed by the Boys at 2:30pm.  GO, NORTHSTARS!!!!

During the semi-final games we recognized the great contributions of our graduating Grade 8 players. They are fabulous!! Additional thank you to our wonderful Spirit Squad for bringing such great energy to all our home games!
Seen Around Our 'World'
We love to know what our students and families are up to outside of school! If you have something you would like to share, please don't hesitate to share it with us! Click here to email us your photos with details for us to post! We especially love to hear (and brag!) about student accomplishments outside of school! We love sharing ALL about each of our students!
Congratulations to Seventh Grade student, Nick Dias, who recently made the New Hampshire Amateur Hockey Association U13 Team. He will be representing NH at the New England District camp in March.
Ms. Ashley and Ms. Kristin’s Toddler 2 class has been learning about arctic animals. A highlight of their week was exploring (and getting messy) with arctic animals in “Unmeltable Snow” (a mixture of flour and baby oil). The children had a blast trying to locate and then recall the name of each arctic animal.
Our Kindergarteners had a blast developing their engineering skills this week while exploring how robots are used for remote research. They learned how remote vehicles are used to explore underwater, in space, and during natural disasters. The students collaborated in pairs to build their own search robots to explore the classroom!
Our NorthStars fans were out in full force at our semi-final basketball games! Pictured here are Mrs. Chicarelli’s and Mrs. Tucker’s daughters enjoying the game together!
Thank you to Mrs. Morganelli for fostering a love of reading for her students! During her Book Club Elective, students create reading journals, discuss the books they are reading and share recommendations with friends, all while enjoying tea, hot chocolate and sweet treats!
Our Eighth Grade artists began working on their historical mask project using a plastering technique. Students will research various masks in history and then apply their creativity skills to recreate the mask of their choice.
Check out the amazing work of our Advanced Art Elective. Pictured here are a few Seventh and Eighth Grade artists painting with acrylics. What unbelievable talent we have at World Academy! Thank you to Mrs. Iannone for bringing out the creativity in each of them!
Our Middle School Ski Club participants enjoyed another beautiful day on the slopes. It has been an amazing journey for all of our beginning skiers who are mastering new skills, conquering challenges, gaining confidence and developing an appreciation for the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire. Hopefully this introduction will allow them to enjoy skiing for many years to come!
Our team building challenge on Tuesday consisted of the game “Unwrapped”. Teams received a ball of Saran wrap that cover the numbers one through 10. Team leaders, otherwise known as teachers, continually rolled the dice. When they rolled an even number, students had to pass the giant ball of plastic wrap while continually trying to unwrap all of the numbers one through 10. The first team who could unwrap all of the numbers won. This frenzied relay was energized and hysterical! Students also enjoyed rock climbing with Ms. Bishop!
Ms. Bishop spent some quality ‘Zen’ time with our Third Grade students during their physical education class practicing some mindfulness exercises. These types of activities focus on increasing concentration and regulating emotions...Ommmmm!
On Tuesday, the Sixth Graders in the non-ski program participated in a STEM project in Ms. Bishop's “Fractured Fairy Tale” class. They were asked to build a better house than the Three Little Pigs did, that wouldn't fall down from the power of the big bad Wolf, aka Ms. Bishop's hairdryer (Great imagination!)!
Have a great weekend!
