The famous Silk Road was traveled from the early centuries of the CE. Merchants from the Middle East as well as Europe were the ones opening the trade routes to China and beyond. Among those travelers, Jewish merchants from Levant, Persia, and surrounding countries were prominent in the trade business. The Hebrew Scroll from the 8th Century CE found at the Mogao caves is a testament to the Jewish presence in China and on the Silk Road. Join us to learn more about the fascinating discovery from Hebrew University alumni Vlady Cornateanu and Dr. Robert Duke, Azusa Pacific University School of Theology Dean, with USC Associate Professor of Cinematic Practice Eric Hansen.
This program will take place at 6:30 PM Chicago Time.

Museum Book Club: Antisemitism Here and Now: By Deborah E. Lipstadt with the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center
|
|
Tuesday, April 20, 2021
7:00 PM
Over the last decade, there has been a noticeable uptick in antisemitic rhetoric and incidents by left-wing groups targeting Jewish students and organizations on American college campuses. The reemergence of the white nationalist movement in America, complete with Nazi slogans and imagery, has been reminiscent of the fascist displays of the 1930s. Throughout Europe, Jews have been attacked and murdered by terrorists.
Where is all this hatred coming from? Is there any significant difference between left-wing and right-wing antisemitism? What role has the anti-Zionist movement played? And what can be done to combat the latest manifestations of an ancient hatred?
In a series of letters to an imagined college student and imagined colleagues, both of whom are perplexed by this resurgence, acclaimed historian Deborah Lipstadt gives us her own superbly reasoned, brilliantly argued, and certain-to-be-controversial responses to these troubling questions.
Click here to buy Antisemitism: Here and Now from the museum online shop.
Free to the public. Reservations required.
