Dear Members & Colleagues
Approaching the end of the calendar year and the beginning of the festive season often invokes a period of reflection as we take stock in excited anticipation of the forthcoming New Year 2025. And WOW what a year we’ve had at TMA Europe!
We have achieved so many more great things and facilitated the sharing of experience, knowledge, connectivity and community that TMA is so well placed to bring. You have every right to feel TMA Proud! We have held several notable events which demonstrate the strength in depth of our connectivity and community and which go to the very heart of what being a member of TMA and TMA Europe is all about.
For example, we held our first ever TMA Live event … a totally new concept giving you the opportunity to get close to a sector-focused business. In this case, automotive, held in Stuttgart, incorporating a physical visit to one of the Mercedes car plant’s there, providing attendees with a real insight into the sector’s challenges.
In March, EACTP held a Turbocharged Turnaround workshop at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. Attendees enjoyed an immersive workshop-style with a hands-on, teamwork, gamification approach focused on skills enhancement, and which centred upon a ‘back to the future’ in turnaround skills theme.
In June, London Called and we held our second International Symposium in conjunction with our Annual European Conference. There were so many highlights. Too many to mention here, but it exceeded all expectations and provided an exhilarating fusion of innovation and global business expertise. It certainly rocked and I get pimples even now thinking about it!
In October, we again held our Central & East European Summit, this year in Warsaw, Poland, and it was a notable first. Not least because it was TMA Europe’s first event with the newly formed Polish TMA Chapter but also because it was our first event in Poland and our first ever joint event with SFNet Europe. It combined debates around the challenges of Asset-Based Lending and Secured Finance in the region, alongside Turnaround and Restructuring trends and opportunities. You won’t be surprised to hear what a tremendous success it was for all who attended.
In November, we held the first European TMA NOW Summit in Paris focussed upon the challenges of the Commercial Real Estate as a Distressed Asset Class and how best to navigate this challenging landscape, with speakers from the UK, France and Germany.
As you can see it’s been a busy year and there isn’t space here to mention the several other notable local events held throughout all the European chapters and our events focused on TMA NextGen and TMA's Network of Women. Thanks to the efforts of all involved, in particular our Sponsorship and Conference Committee. Thanks too to all our sponsors, without whose support none of this would be possible and a big THANK YOU to you for helping to bring to life the TMA Community.
As we look towards the start the new year, I am already buzzing with the excitement of what we have in store. Most notably we now have an agreed action plan to implement a manifesto for our strategy and vision for TMA Europe. So please watch this space. I’m very much looking forward to the next TMA Live event which is to be held in Milan, Italy focusing on Luxury Retail & Consumer Goods and will be run in unison with EACTP's Turbocharged Turnaround workshops at the University of Bergamo.
We shall be returning to Paris for 2025’s International Symposium and Annual European on 2-4 June. We first held our first ever European Conference in Paris in 2008, and I never fail to get excited at the thought of spending more time in such a fabulous city. I very much look forward to being you there at to meeting you at one of our several other events that we have planned.
In the meantime, all that remains for me to do is to thank you all for your unwavering support and confidence in continuing the TMA Europe journey, and to wish you and your families a very peaceful and enjoyable festive season, and to hope that 2025 brings all that you are wishing for.
My best wishes,
Tyrone Courtman
