Message from the Principal
The 2022-23 school year was filled with many challenges and triumphs, however, despite the unexpected obstacles we were able to come together as a community and work to help our students accomplish their goals! In the last year, our students enjoyed spending time with staff as they learned engaging lessons in the classroom while practicing their social skills. Students have learned more about themselves, their interests, and the world around them! Thanks to their hard work, our students were able to progress in their academic journeys and end the year better equipped to be the successful learners we always knew they could be!

Spring at The Foundation School
Students and staff waited with anticipation for spring so that we could jump into our fun outdoor activities. Ringing in the new season, we got into the spirit by decorating our hallways so that we felt like we were walking through a garden with blooming flowers! Although it took a little while for the temperature to rise, the students and staff enjoyed several outdoor activities. Always competitive, our students hunted for colorful eggs and the elusive “Golden Egg” during our Easter Egg Hunt and towards the end of the year students enjoyed a fun-filled field day playing flag football, throwing water balloons, drinking slushies, jumping rope and playing a friendly game of tug of war!

Rock, Paper, Probability?
Our sixth grade class found a creative way to learn by taking a common game of Rock, Paper, Scissors and turning it into a lesson about probability. Being able to predict possible outcomes is an important skill that we use in our daily lives; students even learned how it’s an important skill for certain jobs, like meteorologists when predicting the weather. We doubt that understanding probability will increase their success in playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with their peers but it was a fun, hands-on way for our students to gain a better understanding of the concept!

The Smell Test
Our middle school students put their sense of smell to the test! As a supplemental learning activity to our study of the human body and our five senses, students were blindfolded and challenged to identify lemons, cinnamon, vanilla, vinegar and chocolate using only their sense of smell! Needless to say, they had some interesting guesses!

Goodbye Kindergarten, Hello 1st Grade
This June, we celebrated our largest graduating kindergarten class promoting to the 1st grade! These six students wore their summer shades, danced and smiled their way into 1st grade during their end of the year promotion ceremony. Just like their class project where they watched caterpillars transform into butterflies, this group of six transformed into well-prepared and classroom-ready students right before our eyes. As a group, they were spirited and unique just like the butterflies they released on their last day of school!

8th Grade Promotion Celebration
Staff, students and families participated in our annual promotion ceremony as we celebrated the success of our 8th grade students. As always, this was an emotional event for us all! Tears flowed as staff, students and families expressed joy and pride in our students’ accomplishments, representing the culmination of their year-long perseverance and tenacity. We are proud of them all and look forward to watching them grow as high school students!

Academic Success
Congratulations to the senior class of 2023. We are very proud of our graduates, Dei'Viauntai and Amy, for working hard all throughout the year and graduating with honors! End of the Year Events
Our high school students ended the year with a bang with several exciting end-of-year events. Students that maintained positive behavior levels earned a trip to Crofton Go-Kart, where they had a wonderful time racing on the race track with their classmates! To promote tolerance and inclusivity, students also participated in the observance of PRIDE Day. They created a tolerance banner and conducted a podcast to discuss current events among teens. Students did a great job expressing their varying opinions while remaining respectful and kind to one another. Lastly, our annual June field day was a great success. Despite the rainy weather, students participated in exciting indoor activities including minute-to-win-it games, a staff versus student obstacle course, and karaoke. It was wonderful to see the students learn and grow this year!

Staff Shout Outs
The high school team congratulates Ms. Rhonetta Brooks for being our Core Value Award winner for the 22-23 school year. Every year, one staff from each program is recognized for exemplifying our core values: Teamwork, Work Ethic, Integrity, Respect, and Leadership (TWIRL). Ms. Brooks is our high school career teacher, working hard to support our students’ transition goals. She exemplifies TWIRL every day, consistently supporting her colleagues in any way she can and completing tasks with enthusiasm and fidelity. We are so glad to have her on our team.
