Continuing Our Focus on Science
Throughout the spring semester, The Foundation School of Montgomery County continued our year-long focus on science with exciting activities and trips! In our high school biology classes, students conducted a variety of science experiments such as making DNA models out of gumdrops and racing race cars made out of mousetraps. Meanwhile, our middle school science classes conducted research on planets and later presented their findings to the class. Students also continued to expand their knowledge of the solar system when we took a guided tour of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

End of the Year Excitement
We wrapped up the 2022-2023 school year with three exciting end of year activities. First, we held a schoolwide field day event at Griffith Park which included a cookout, playing basketball and kickball, time on the playground, and lots of back yard games.
|
|
Then, we hosted our highly anticipated graduation ceremonies at Seneca Creek State Park where we first celebrated our eight graduating seniors, followed by an afternoon ceremony for our eight eighth grade graduates. We were excited to recognize all of our graduates and are so proud of all the hard work they put in to make it to graduation day!

Serving Our Community
Our service learning club practiced teamwork and showed amazing kindness to their local and school community through several community service projects this year. To make certain classroom topics easier to understand, students designed informational bulletin boards about World War I and math subjects like Circles and Pi for their peers to admire in our hallways. Students also continued to give updates about school events and celebrations through our weekly school newsletter, including shout outs to our staff and important information about Autism Awareness Month in April.
Our service learning club also extended their kindness to our local community by delivering meals with our partners at Meals on Wheels. During our summer session, we plan to continue our model of service by researching the needs of our local Gaithersburg community, completing beautification projects around the school, engaging in advocacy campaigns, and volunteering with community service locations like ReStore, Manna Foods, Comfort Cases, Cura Personalis, and Silver Spring Food Distribution.

Throughout the school year, we recognize a newcomer staff member and a staff member of the quarter for their tremendous job representing our core values: Teamwork, Work Ethic, Integrity, Respect, and Leadership (TWIRL). For the final newsletter of the 2022-2023 school year, we want to recognize the following staff members for going above and beyond in their positions during the third and fourth quarter!
