We are officially in the best season of the year. This is the season that is bigger than our individual selves. It is a season of giving, grace and good times surrounded by family and friends. It is also a moment to reflect on how our community is showing up for one another in meaningful ways..

This month, we saw that spirit firsthand through events focused on health, hope and healing. From our first Health, Hope & Healing Wellness Fair to workshops and national conferences centered on equity and wellness, each gathering showed what is possible when people, partners and providers come together. We ae also beginning the month of December with a World AIDS Day celebration that everyone is invited to support. As you read through this newsletter, we hope you feel encouraged by the work happening across our community and inspired to carry the season’s generosity into the weeks ahead.

In closing, we extend our gratitude to you for your continued support and commitment to building healthier, stronger communities. Your involvement is invaluable. Connect with us through our Georgia Thrives website contact form or on our social media platforms.

The year is not over. There is still time to make Georgia Thrive in 2025!

DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!

From December 1 through December 6, the community is coming together for Dear: Atlanta A Tribute to World AIDS Day, a weeklong event aimed at building an AIDS-free generation. Each day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., everyone is invited to help create new panels for the AIDS Memorial Quilt in honor of loved ones affected by HIV AIDS. SHLI will host the workshop on December 5 in the Hugh Gloster Pavilion lobby.

Participants can volunteer onsite or contribute artwork and share messages of remembrance and hope.

This event offers a meaningful way to commemorate lives lost, support ongoing awareness and stand with communities working to build a future without AIDS. You may submit a name to be included by texting “quilt” to 404-737-1009.

Health, Hope & Healing Wellness Fair Recap

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and a video must be worth much more. Go back with us to Saturday, Nov. 1, as we hosted our first Health, Hope & Healing Wellness Fair at Valley Healthcare in Columbus. Nearly 20 agencies attended to share information that supports better minds, bodies and spirits. Mr. Cardio got the blood pumping with his morning chair workout, and attendees took advantage of screenings and resources. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to every vendor on site. Special thanks to our sponsors, Valley Healthcare and Pillars Initiative.

Breaking the Silence: Understanding HIV, Substance Use Disorders and Recovery Summit

Held on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Loudermilk Conference Center in Atlanta, this summit brought together healthcare professionals for a full day of learning and collaboration. Attendees explored the connections between HIV, substance use disorders (SUD) and recovery through expert panels, case studies and breakout discussions. The program focused on reducing stigma, improving care coordination and building strategies that support long-term wellness. The summit served as a reminder that meaningful progress happens when practitioners and community leaders share knowledge and work together.
