Community Brief from Endeavor Elementary
"Letting the Good Times Roll"
Thursday, August 29, 2019

It is with great pleasure that I welcome our students, parents and family members to the 2019-2020 school year!

I am so proud that for the second consecutive year Endeavor has received an "A" rating from the state and we will be "Letting the Good Times Roll" with our Cajun theme. We had nearly 90% participation at this year's Open House and I would like to thank all that attended making this year's kick off a true party.

As I walked through classrooms on the first day of school, I enjoyed seeing the teaching and learning that is occurring on our campus. I invite you to attend our Open House on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Our students and teachers will be so proud to showcase their hard work. Please make sure to stop in and visit our wonderful PTA that will be in the cafeteria that evening. I encourage all our families to join the PTA in support of all they do for our school.

Please don't forget that school hours begin with the first bell at 8:40AM and the tardy bell rings at 8:45AM. It is important students be in their classroom on time and ready as instruction begins promptly after the bell. As always, thank you for your cooperation in this matter and in all things that support our Navigator family.

Together with Mr. Diaz our new assistant principal, the teachers, and staff we are creating an educational environment where our children can learn and grow!

HIGHLIGHT: WE MADE THE GRADE!

"Public and Collaborative Teaching"
We are proud to share that Endeavor Elementary is an "A" school for the second year in a row! School grades provide an easily understandable way to measure the performance of a school. Parents and the general public can use the school grade and its components to understand how well each school is serving its students. School grades consist of both achievement components and learning gains component - Florida Department of Education (2019 school grades) - Endeavor's school # is 0214 when searching on the FLDOE system.

Supportive Environment

During severe weather situations, all Orange County Public Schools must implement the Delayed Dismissal Rule should there be inclement weather at the end of the school day.

30 Seconds: Count the seconds between seeing lightning and hear thunder. If the time is less than 30 seconds, lightning is still a potential threat.

30 Minutes: after hearing the last thunder wait 30 minutes before leaving shelter.

Parents, please be sure to bring your car and walker tags when you come in the building.

Ambitious Instruction and Learning

Endeavor earned 436 total points during 2018-2019 under the Florida Dept. of Education grading system. This is up 1 point from the prior school year continuing our growth trend and scoring a high enough total to earn another 'A' grade. ( School grades for all Florida K-12 public schools - Endeavor's school number is 0214)

To celebrate the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, Endeavor teachers were surprised with a Second Line Parade that would make the French Quarter proud! Zydeco music filled the corridors and teachers happily followed the parade route through the newly decorated Bayou of Books before the business of learning and teaching began.

Former student Carson Pressler surprised us with a visit during Meet the Teacher and donated three large boxes of gently used books and two backpacks filled with supplies to his fifth grade teacher Dr. Harrison. Ms. Ambrose was thrilled to accept the books on his behalf and get them ready for the classroom library.

Florida Dept. of Education Standard SC5.P13.1 - Identify familiar forces that cause objects to move, such as pushes, pulls including gravity acting on falling objects.

Students enjoyed engineering fun while creating "Lifesaver Cars." Inspired by Sir Isaac Newton's first law of motion on inertia that says, an item in motion stays in motion and those at rest stay at rest, students understood the foundation for understanding the physics behind force and motion.

Mr. Alfonso Moya, parent of former student Brandon Moya, generously donated twenty backpacks to our school. If was fate that the backpacks came in Endeavor's five G.A.T.O.R. House colors since the House System was put into place only three years ago, years after Brandon's high school graduation. Thank you Mr. Moya - we are grateful that you and your son have fond memories of his time spent at Endeavor!
