CHICAGO -- Two former opponents in the hotly contested 2nd Ward race for alderman are backing front-runner Brian Hopkins because "he offers the most comprehensive vision to lead Chicago's 2nd Ward." Hopkins responded that he is, "humbled by the gracious actions of Bita Buenrostro and Cornell Wilson who are supporting my candidacy." Hopkins praised Wilson and Buenrostro for presenting excellent ideas during the course of their campaigns. "Bita has been instrumental in bringing visibility to community police work, while Cornell brought renewed focus to anti-violence efforts which are so important across the city." Buenrostro and Wilson are supporting Hopkins in the upcoming April 7th aldermanic run-off because of shared priorities for the newly-drawn Ward that stretches from Ukrainian Village to Streeterville. Buenrostro, the wife of a Chicago police sergeant, said, "Brian and I agree that crime is the number one concern in the Ward." She joined Hopkins in calling for the return of 1,000 police officers to help patrol neighborhood streets adding, "I know Brian will work to make people feel safe again in their homes." Said Wilson: "Brian is the only candidate who can develop comprehensive solutions for both Chicago and the 2nd Ward. He is ready on day one to tackle the challenges before us and get the city back on track to a healthier financial future." On February 24, Hopkins was the top vote-getter among six candidates in what the media dubbed "one of the most qualified fields of candidates running for office." "I have always been a coalition builder," Hopkins said, "so I welcome the support of these impressive candidates who now want to help secure strong representation for the 2nd Ward." -- Media Contact: John Geahan Campaign Manager (312) 643-2299 |
