In 2018, Governor Murphy signed into law the landmark legislation known as the Clean Energy Act. As part of this statewide undertaking, the Clean Energy Act required New Jersey’s investor-owned gas and electric utility companies to reduce their customers’ use of gas and electricity by set percentages over time. To achieve this, many of the current energy efficiency programs run by the state are transitioning to the utilities. Specifically, those serving existing homes and buildings.
This transition has begun and will take place over the coming months with most of the new programs being available by July 1, 2021.
During this time, we understand that there is uncertainty regarding how these new program offerings will compare with those offered by the NJCEP and how this transition will impact your business and your customers.
Please note that the legislation and subsequent Board Orders require that the utilities coordinate to provide consistent program offerings. Additionally, given the aggressive energy savings goals the utilities must achieve, we expect their programs and incentives to be similar to or perhaps better than those currently offered through the NJCEP.
