Cohort 2 Connects Industry and Space Science to “Space City” Project

Cohort 2 students recently engaged in two powerful learning experiences that directly support PBL 2: Space City, a project centered on systems thinking and designing sustainable environments beyond Earth.

During a visit to British Petroleum (BP), students explored real-world innovation in action. They toured professional spaces, shared ideas with industry representatives, and participated in a hands-on design challenge. Photos from the visit show students collaborating in teams, sketching ideas, building prototypes with cardboard and materials, and presenting their concepts in a professional setting. The experience encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork while giving students insight into how engineering and design processes operate in the energy sector.

Back on campus, Cohort 2 welcomed Dr. Scott Solomon for the second consecutive year at Energy Institute. Dr. Solomon is a biologist, Rice University professor, and science communicator known for his TED Talks, NPR and BBC appearances, and articles in Wired. His newest book explores how humans might survive on Mars, a topic that directly aligns with the cohort’s “Space City” project.

During his visit, Dr. Solomon presented on the future of life beyond Earth, shared insights from his research, and engaged students in thoughtful discussion. Students asked insightful questions, connecting his research to their own developing projects. The visit enriched their understanding of how biology, environmental systems, and human adaptation intersect in extreme environments.



Together, these two experiences brought classroom learning to life. From industry innovation at BP to cutting-edge research on Mars survival, Cohort 2 continues to explore how systems function, adapt, and evolve on Earth and beyond.

From practicing routines to encouraging one another before performances, the team demonstrates what it means to lead with positivity and unity. Their commitment to supporting school events and building community shines through in every cheer, chant, and pom-pom wave.

A Night to Remember: Senior Night and a Big Win for Energy Basketball 🏀🎉

Energy Institute High School celebrated more than just a basketball game this week. The evening doubled as Senior Night, honoring our Class of 2026 student-athletes and cheerleaders in front of proud families, friends, and classmates.

Before tip-off, seniors were recognized on the court, each holding personalized posters featuring childhood photos and memories from their journey to this milestone moment. Parents stood beside their students, capturing photos and soaking in the significance of the night. It was a powerful reminder of how quickly the years pass and how much our seniors have grown.

Once the game began, the Energy team carried that celebration straight onto the court. With focus and determination, Energy defeated the High School for Law and Justice with an impressive final score of 53–21. The crowd was energized, the gym was loud, and the support from families made the victory even sweeter.

Senior Night was more than a win on the scoreboard. It was a celebration of dedication, teamwork, and the community that surrounds our students. We are incredibly proud of our seniors for representing Energy with heart, perseverance, and school pride.

Energy Music Club Finds Its Sound

The Energy Music Club has been buzzing with creativity this week as students begin writing original songs together. What started as chord practice and early lessons has grown into full collaborations, with guitar and vocal duos, guitar and bass pairings, and even a student composing and recording music on a Chromebook with a keyboard.

It has been inspiring to watch the growth unfold. Students who once focused on learning basic chords are now blending melodies, shaping lyrics, and building original pieces as a team. The confidence in the room is unmistakable. Ideas are shared freely, rhythms are tested and refined, and each session feels like a small studio in motion.



The Energy Music Club continues to be a space where talent develops and creativity thrives.
