Energy HEROs Compete Among the Best in Texas

Energy Institute’s Robotics Team 5892, the Energy HEROs, is currently competing at the FIRST in Texas District Championship and making strong progress. The team ranked 7th after the Thursday matches. Several matches are still remaining with opportunities to continue climbing in the standings.

The Energy community is cheering them on as they compete through the final rounds demonstrating skill, strategy, and resilience on a highly competitive stage.

Celebrating Every Kind of Excellence at Honors Night

Energy Institute recently hosted its 9th–11th Grade Awards Night, a meaningful celebration of student growth, achievement, and character. The evening consists of three main awards categories. The Firefly Awards, the Soft Skills Awards, and the Tesla Awards.

Teachers presented individual Firefly Awards to students who have stood out in unsuspecting ways. While many awards highlight visible accomplishments, the Firefly Award shines a light on students whose impact may be quieter, but just as powerful. These are students who persevere through challenges, rise to the moment, support others, and demonstrate resilience and character in ways that may not always be seen. Teachers also nominated and voted on students for the Soft Skill Awards that included the Ted Talk Award, The Presidential Award, The Gates Award, The Chameleon Award, The Green Peace Award, The Grit Award, The Game Changer Award, and the Fulcrum Award highlighting the soft skills that are so important at Energy. The final award of the evening was the Tesla Award that  is given to an outstanding student in each grade level, chosen by the Energy leadership team. The recipient has attained a high level of academic achievement, contributed to the school in extraordinary ways, and embodies the twenty-first century skills that are so important to the mission and vision of Energy.

Energy VEX Team Heads to World Championship 

Energy Institute is proud to announce that the VEX Robotics team is headed to the VEX Robotics World Championship, one of the largest and most competitive robotics events in the world. This global competition brings together hundreds of high school teams from over 60 countries, all competing at the highest level of innovation, engineering, and teamwork.

The event will take place in St. Louis, Missouri, where students will represent Energy Institute on an international stage, collaborating and competing with teams from around the globe. In addition to competition rounds, students will engage in a once-in-a-lifetime experience that exposes them to diverse ideas, cultures, and advanced robotics design.

As the team prepares to travel and compete, the Energy community celebrates their hard work, dedication, and achievement in reaching this level of competition. This opportunity reflects countless hours of preparation, problem-solving, and teamwork.

College Night

Last week Energy Institute hosted a College Night for students and families in grades 9-11. The families enjoyed sessions about College Application Basics, How to Stand Out on College Applications, and Essay Writing. Thank you to all of the families who came to join us and to all of our presenters!

Celebrating the World at Energy: International Festival Brings Cultures to Life

Energy Institute High School came alive with color, music, and global pride during its Second Annual International Festival. Students, staff, and families gathered to celebrate cultures from around the world through food, performances, and interactive experiences.

Guests explored booths representing countries and regions including Italy, Texas, Argentina, Mexico, Iceland, Japan, the Philippines, Guam, El Salvador, Germany, Ghana, India, France, Israel, and more. Each space offered a unique window into traditions, with flavors and cultural activities that turned the campus into a vibrant global marketplace.

The stage performances added rhythm and energy to the evening. Students showcased dances and traditions from across the globe, including South Asian cultural performances representing India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, as well as lively Spanish dance pieces. The Spanish Honor Society delivered multiple standout performances, while additional acts such as karaoke, martial arts demonstrations rooted in Japanese tradition, and live music kept the audience engaged throughout the night.

From origami and cultural games to music and movement, the festival created a space where learning felt alive and personal. More than just an event, the International Festival reflected Energy’s commitment to global awareness, student voice, and the beauty of shared experiences across cultures.
