Energy Awards AP Computer Science Honor

Energy Institute has earned the College Board AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles. Schools honored with the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award have expanded girls’ access in AP computer science courses. More than 1,100 institutions achieved either 50% or higher female representation in one of the two AP computer science courses or a percentage of the female computer science exam takers meeting or exceeding that of the school’s female population during the 2022-23 school year. In 2023, Energy Institute High School was one of 834 recognized in the category of AP Computer Science Principles (CSP). We’re thrilled to congratulate our female AP computer science students and Mr. Hamilton on this step toward gender parity in computer science education. We’re honored that our school earned this distinction and look forward to seeing these young women and others pursue and achieve success in computer science education and careers.

Cohort 1 Entry Event!

Cohort 1 had a fun and engaging entry event for our third project - SPACE CITY. The students were challenged to use limited resources to design and build a space suit and parachute for their group’s teddy bear astronaut. Their designs were very creative and they are excited about the project.

VEX All-Girls Team Wins Judges Award

Energy's all-girls VEX Team (3674G) won the Judges Award last semester at the USTEM VEX Robotics tournament at Waltrip High School. The Judges Award goes to the team deserving recognition from Judges for special accomplishments. There were 28 area teams in the competition. The team finished the day with a 3-3 record. The team is shown here in pink T-shirts along with girls from Blanson CTE High School.

Cohort 6 Entry Event!

Before the break, Cohort 6 launched their project, “Yes we can, but should we?”. Over the next few weeks, students will explore the question, “How can we, as ethicists, evaluate the questions that arise from scientific innovation?”. During the entry event, students constructed domino representations of fission and fusion and participated in a playing card simulation that illustrated the complexities of nuclear power as it pertains to geopolitics.

Digital SAT Is Coming

Energy students took the Digital PSAT this fall. Starting in 2024, the SAT will be transitioning to a digital exam as well. We have teamed up with Revolution Prep to offer students more support and additional resources. Revolution Prep is offering our students an opportunity to take the new Digital SAT Practice exam online for free! The test will take place at home on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You can register at https://www.revolutionprep.com/partners/139673/. Students will receive a detailed score report and will be able to review the exam and wrong answers. They will also be able to meet with a Revolution Prep to review their score. This is a great opportunity to get extra practice in for juniors prior to the Spring SAT.
