Underclass school photos will take place next week on Monday and Tuesday. Students will take their photo during their PBL Skills class, so periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 will take their photo on Monday and periods 2, 4, 6, and 8 will take their photo on Tuesday. Like every day, students must be in dress code for photos. Picture make-up day is Friday, November 4th and there will not be picture re-takes this year. These photos will be used for the yearbook and for next year's school IDs.

Attention Freshman Parents

Today all freshmen met with administrators to complete their Personal Graduation Plan and selected their career interests, post high school plans, post secondary testing plans, and the endorsements they will be pursuing in high school. All Energy students work towards the STEM and Multi-disciplinary endorsements and some add the Arts and Humanities endorsement later. The State of Texas requires that all students have a PGP on file that we use to make sure your child is meeting all graduation requirements and has a plan for continuing their education or entering the workforce after high school. All PGP information is found in PowerSchool. Freshman parents must log-in and verify their child's PGP.

Here is how:

  • Log-in to PowerSchool (www.houstonisd.org/parentportal)
  • If you need an access code, reach out to Ms. Duwaji at alma.duwaji@houstonsid.org.
  • Once you log-in, click on the PGP dashboard link on the navigation bar on the left. You will see:
  • Demographic Info
  • Graduation Plan Type
  • Date the PGP was initiated
  • Endorsement Course Planner
  • CTE courses
  • Go to the Parent Acknowledgement section on the page
  • Check the box to consent to sign electronically
  • Type your full name
  • Enter the current date
  • Click submit

If you have questions, please reach out to your child's dean.

Cohort News & More

Weekly Highlights

Cohort 1 Exhibition

Cohort 1 just wrapped up their first project. Students worked together to adapt to a sudden survival situation in a specific biome. Students focused on finding the basic elements of survival: food, shelter, and water in order to create a Survival Guidebook. Groups researched their specific biomes looking for native tools and resources as well as hardships and locational challenges. Ultimately, students answered the question, “How can we survive in an environment using its specific resources to meet basic human needs?”

Cohort 6 Water Quality Testing

Students in Cohort 6 have been studying water quality as part of their current project. This week they tested water they collected during a recent field trip to local wetlands to determine if the water was drinkable. Spoiler alert! It was not drinkable. Next week students learn how to create their own filters to clean water.

Staff and Student Recognition

Mr. Tesla Awarded to Ms. Gardner

Each week one staff member is honored by another staff member for their contributions to Energy. The selected staff member gets to hang out with Mr. Tesla for the week and select the next recipient.

Last week's recipient, Ms. Zubrick, has selected Ms. Gardner as this week's Tesla Winner! She teaches Health and Yearbook. She also sponsors Minorities in Tech and co-sponsors POM Squad.

Ms. Zubrick said, "I continue to be amazed every day - and inspired, by her ability to connect with, engage with, and bring out the absolute best in our students. Not only is she passionate about her content, she is equally and genuinely passionate about making sure our students feel valued as human beings."

Congratulations Ms. Gardner!

Senior News and Information

College Updates

This month Energy hosted a college night for seniors and their parents. Families learned more about the college application process and how to get help each step of the way. Parents got to see where their senior was in the process and where to go from there. They also got help with financial aid. If you missed the night, you can find a lot of resources at www.tinyurl.com/collegedocs23. The first document, Nuts and Bolts of the College Process, is a one stop shop for the basics of the whole process. We are proud of our seniors - 50% of our seniors have applied to at least one college and it's not even November 1st (a big early decision/early action deadline). Did you know, you can increase your chances of getting accepted at a school by applying early action? And early action is non-binding.

On October 12th our seniors visited local colleges including Houston Baptist University, The University of St. Thomas, The University of Houston- Clear Lake, and Rice University. Thank you to our parent chaperones!

Senior Dues - Pay Today!

Senior dues cover graduation ceremony costs, a professional graduation photo on stage, the yearbook, a graduation cap and gown, the diploma cover, a senior class panoramic picture, senior t-shirt, senior breakfast, prom, senior picnic (or other fun selected activity), and more senior week activities.

The Early Bird time period has expired. Students should pay their senior dues before prices increase again. Senior students should see their dean if there are any economic concerns and make sure they have completed the Socioeconomic Form. Visit our website for more information.

PTO News

Purchase Your Energy Polo Today

Energy has three modes of dress. Energy students are required to wear a blue Energy polo for field trips, certain guest speakers, and special events. These are purchased through our PTO store and can be picked up by students at the PTO office (in the B building) on Wednesdays during lunch. Shirts are $25. As special field trips and events are starting up, it's important that anyone who does not already have one, gets one purchased. Visit the PTO store to purchase yours today. All students should have one purchased by the end of September.
