Monday is Senior College Night

Senior parents and students should join us on Monday, October 10th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM for Senior College Night. The event has two sessions - the Nuts and Bolts of the College Application Process and Financial Aid. The student and parent should attend together and bring the school laptop so the student can log-in to Naviance for the college activities and FAFSA for financial aid activities. We are asking parents to RSVP (at www.tinyurl.com/EIHSCollegeNightRSVP) so we can ensure that we have enough support that evening. You can also scan the QR code on the flyer to RSVP. The flyer also has a QR code you can scan to get a list of documents required for the financial aid application. If you have any questions please reach out to you child's dean or Ms. Cortinas at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you here!

Weekly Highlights

Pre-Calculus

On Tuesday, September 27, the Pre-Calculus class had the honor of having Sanjna Bharadwaj, a filmmaker, speak to our students! Bharadwaj has worked for Pixar, Netflix, and is currently working with BentoBox to create an animated series. She has created many short films! She talked about her creative process to students as they are in the creative process in their projects to create short stories. The class's current driving question is, How can we, as animators and mathematicians, use equations of various functions to tell a story?

Students are creating an object of their choice and will be grouped together with similar objects to create a short story. Students are using parent functions and translating them on Desmos to create their object.

We look forward to seeing their math projects come alive during this project.

City Council Meeting

Cohort 4 had a mock city council meeting last Wednesday! All groups presented on why the city should fund their bridge project, and the top three groups are pictured with Mrs. Lambropoulos here! The students competed bracket-style during their presentations, and half had to give another 45-second "elevator pitch" that was voted on for the winners. We're so proud of all our students for their hard work and preparation!

Biology Anatomical Structures

In Biology, we recently learned about evidence of evolution, specifically Anatomical structures. Students used pipe cleaners to make a poster of an anatomical structures and compare them between different animals. If your freshman is in Cohort 1, ask them to show you their structure!

VEX Robotics, AP Computer Science Principles, and Robotics Classes Off To A Strong Start

The Robotics Room is a hub of activity between the AP Computer Science presentations, the Robotics class building robots, and new members joining the VEX Robotics Club. If you are interested in joining, see Mr. Hamilton!

Staff and Student Recognition

Mr. Tesla Awarded to Ms. Zubrick

Each week one staff member is honored by another staff member for their contributions to Energy. The selected staff member gets to hang out with Mr. Tesla for the week and select the next recipient.

Last week's recipient, Mr. McNinch, has selected Ms. Zubrick as this week's Tesla Winner! She teaches English in Cohort 2 and Creative Writing as well. Ms. Zubrick also sponsors English UIL and Model UN.

Mr. McNinch said that Ms. Zubrick was helpful and welcoming from the start. He teaches many of her students this year and not only do they all agree she's "cool," but he can tell from their writing that they had an English teacher who held them to high rigor throughout the year and it's a reflection of her ability as a teacher.

Congratulations Ms. Zubrick!
