Post on the Thankful Tree

Senior Student Government is hosting a Thankful Tree in the main hallway of Energy. Students and staff are invited to post what they are thankful for the week of November 13th.

Exhibition Night Information

Our Fall Exhibition is November 16th from 5:00 to 6:30. Exhibition nights provide both students and visitors a chance to engage, connect, and reflect on the Project-Based Learning process. By attending this event, you will learn about student projects and have the ability to provide feedback.

Exhibition is an important part of the PBL process and student participation is mandatory. Students will stay after school until exhibition. Students will not be able to have food delivered or dropped off after school. They will have the option of bringing their own meal or could have ordered Chick-fil-A from the PTO. For exhibition, students must wear professional dress. Students will be on their feet for the entire event, so be mindful that students wear professional and comfortable shoes. If your student is in need of professional dress items, we do have a professional dress closet on campus. Make sure you or your student reaches out to a cohort teacher prior to the event for closet access. 

Please note that students will not have their phones on them during exhibition as all students should be actively participating and fulfilling their roles in the event. The exhibition will open to the public from 5:00-6:30 pm. Students will be dismissed after cleanup around 7:00. Please do not try to take students home before they are dismissed– it delays clean up. Families are welcome to wait in the courtyard or cohort hallway spaces until cohort dismissal.

Middle School Design Challenge Announced

Energy is excited to announce our Middle School Design Challenge Event. We invite all middle school students who are interested in attending Energy to come. Students will get me meet Energy teachers and student ambassadors while participating in a design challenge. Please register at www.tinyurl.com/EIHSmiddleschoolchallenge. We invite our current families to share this with anyone who might be interested. The deadline to register is November 27, 2023.

Energy Students Promote Sports, Inclusion, and Unity

The Outdoor Sports Club is thrilled to share an extraordinary moment in our journey to promote sports, inclusion, and unity. 

This past weekend, EIHS students joined hands with athletes who have intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Special Olympics Unified Champion school sports competition at the football regionals. Our students formed two Unified teams - Team Energy and Team Dream, and their performance was nothing less than awe-inspiring.

In a testament to their talent and dedication, both Team Energy and Team Dream secured the first and second spots in the competition, making us all incredibly proud. Not only did our students display remarkable athletic abilities, but they also embodied the core values of inclusion, effective communication, camaraderie, and teamwork.

Please extend your warmest congratulations to all the Outdoor Sports Club participants for their exceptional achievements and for making this partnership a resounding success! We look forward to continuing this journey of sports, inclusivity, and friendship with The Fit Crew and building a lasting relationship that promises exciting adventures in the future.

Energy Students Excel at Speech and Debate

EIHS Speech and Debate had an incredible weekend at two competitions! Every student who competed at the second Houston Urban Debate League tournament on Saturday placed in their division. On Monday, Congressional debate students competed at UIL regionals, and junior Daniel Terk qualified for the UIL state competition! Congrats to the Energy debaters!

Robotics Teams Visit Exxon Mobil

FRC and VEX was invited to Exxon Mobil campus to tour the facilities. Brant Cassimere, Instrumentation and Controls Supervisor at Exxon Mobil had a jam-packed agenda with captivating and inspiring events throughout the campus. We were able to tour their campus which takes inspirations from geography, artistry, science, literature, and engineering. Students were taken on a tour of their history of the company gala. Students saw things like a model of a formula 1 car, molecule art, history of the gas pump, as well as the manufacture and engineering behind the tools created for oil drilling. They took us to their patent wall which shows all the Exxon Mobil employees that brought in patents. Students were able to meet engineers from around the world and get to know about their pathway to Exxon Mobil. Students were asking questions and engaged in a collegiate level lecture/informational. We were then able to interact with their robotics team and met their robot (Spot). Students were allowed to be control operators and learn to operate Spot, this inspired so many students in researching a career pathway to a control operator in the robotics department of Exxon Mobil. Students were also taken to their technology center to experience what it feels like to accomplish tasks using VR technology. Students were allowed to experience virtual reality and complete small tasks. The electrical engineers explained the future of the technology department at Exxon prompting our students to engage in a discussion of possible internships in this department. Our officers in FRC and VEX where able to experience a board meeting and engage with engineers from all disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Computer Engineering. Overall, our students were captivated with the pristine and amazing architecture of the Exxon Mobil campus, the wonderful panel of engineers, the food of course, and the history of the company. 

Meet the Interns

Each issue, we will introduce you to one of our senior interns that participates in our Practicum in STEM program. These students attend school in the mornings and report to work each afternoon for either a paid or unpaid full year internship. 

We are delighted to spotlight Jordan Cerasuolo this week. He is currently an intern in the Law Department at Marathon Oil. While planning to pursue a degree in computer science, Jordan recognized the importance of cultivating diverse skill sets for a successful career. This insight led him to join the internship program at Marathon Oil, where he is not only gaining hands-on experience in the legal department but also using his computer science background to improve workflows in the department. Jordan also recognized that effective communication is crucial in any career, and he has joined the Toastmasters organization at Marathon to develop his public speaking skills. One of Jordan’s key realizations on the job was that it is important to make a connection with everyone you work with. He has found that through positive conversations and connections, they are all able to work together to accomplish company goals and enjoy their work experience. Jordan’s advice to underclassmen students is “ if you take advantage of the opportunities that are available to, you can learn a tremendous amount and gain invaluable experience and skills.”

The Vex Robotics Team Has a Great Showing

Congrats to Energy Institute High School's VEX Robotics team 3674 N for making it to Tournament Finalist at the Halloween Madness tournament in Cypress, TX. Fifty-four teams from across the region competed. Kudos also to team 3674 R and 3674 G (our all girls team) for improving over the previous week.

Senior Dues

It's time to pay senior dues. Senior dues covered the costs associated with the graduation ceremony, a professional graduation photo, yearbook, cap and gown, diploma cover, senior panoramic picture, senior events, senior t-shirt, senior breakfast, prom (senior's ticket), and senior week activities. If the senior class decides to add in additional events, those may incur additional costs.
