✨ Winter Formal: “Snowy Starry Night” – December 12th! ✨

Energy Institute High School is excited to announce our 2024 Winter Formal, Snowy Starry Night! Students are invited to join us for an evening of music, dancing, and winter magic on Friday, December 12th, from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM.

🎟 Ticket Information

Tickets will be sold during lunch the first week of December.

$15 for EIHS students
$20 for guests
Cash only — exact change strongly preferred.

All students must complete and submit the Winter Formal Contract before purchasing a ticket. Students will not be allowed to buy a ticket without a signed contract, so please plan ahead.

⏰ Arrival & Departure Policies

To ensure a safe and well-managed event:

Students must arrive by 8:00 PM. Anyone arriving after 8:00 PM will not be allowed to enter.
Students may not leave before 9:30 PM.
All students must complete and submit the Winter Formal Contract before purchasing a ticket. Students will not be allowed to buy a ticket without a signed contract, so please plan ahead. Copies are available in all offices or you can print one from www.tinyurl.com/EIHSWinterFormal25

Students should also refer to the Winter Formal Contract for dress code guidelines.

❄ Parent Support Needed!

To make this event special and safe for our students, we are seeking parent volunteers to help with chaperoning, as well as donations of snacks, desserts, bottled drinks, and other refreshments. Your support helps us create a fun, well-supervised evening for all attendees.

This event is a Senior Prom fundraiser, so we appreciate your support.

Junior Leads Middle School Design Challenge as Eagle Scout Project

Energy Institute junior Oliver Yoder played a major leadership role in this year’s Middle School Design Challenge, an event that drew an estimated 110 middle school students to campus. Serving as both a STEM outreach opportunity and a recruitment event, the challenge has become one of Energy’s most successful pipelines; Oliver noted that a large percentage of last year’s attendees later applied, were accepted, and ultimately enrolled at Energy.

Students rotated through two hands-on STEM challenges, moving between rooms in groups of four. Each challenge earned them points, and at the end of the afternoon Oliver and his team tallied the scores and awarded medals to the winning group. The medals were crafted by our senior engineering technicians.

The event also featured custom-designed t-shirts. “I didn’t design it myself,” Oliver shared, “but one of my friends helped me with it, and it turned out great.” Reflecting on the experience, Oliver said his favorite part was “the whole project—not just running it, but the planning before and the wrap-up afterwards.” As his Eagle Scout project, Oliver carried the primary leadership role this year. “Next year,” he said with a smile, “I’ll probably have a couple of my friends help out.”

When asked for any final words for the newsletter, Oliver simply added: “It was a new experience, and I really enjoyed leading something that made an impact.”

Pies for the Energy Team: A Sweet Start to Thanksgiving Break

To kick off the Thanksgiving holiday, the Energy PTO treated every member of the Energy Institute staff—administrators, teachers, custodians, support staff, and everyone in between—to their very own family-sized pie.

This tradition, known as “Pie Day,” is more than just a dessert giveaway. Throughout history, pies have symbolized comfort, hospitality, and gratitude. In many cultures, gifting a pie is a heartfelt way of saying, “You matter, and we appreciate you.”

The Energy PTO embraced that spirit wholeheartedly, ensuring that each staff member went home with a sweet addition to their holiday table. It was a simple but meaningful gesture to honor the people who pour into our students every day.

From pumpkin to pecan and everything in between, the pies brought plenty of smiles—and a reminder that at Energy, we’re a community that celebrates one another.

Thank you the families who donated and for the parents who helped hand them out with a smile!

Sweet Fundraiser

Today Senior Student Government hosted a Pie in the Face Fundraiser event. Students purchased pies to throw at teachers, students, and administrators to raise money for senior prom. Thank you to those who ran it, got pied, and bought pies to throw! It was a great way to wrap up the last lunch before break.

Exhibition Prep for the Big Day

Throughout the last two weeks, cohorts have held in-house exhibitions and engaged in other practice activities to prepare for our Underclass Exhibition. A big part of Project Based Learning is presenting to the community, industry partners, classmates, educators, and family. Students practice presentations allowed them to get feedback and make adjustments for Underclass Exhibition night.

REMINDER: Seniors do not have to order a yearbook as the yearbook is a part of the Senior package.

Spirit Wear Announcement: Order Your Energy Polo Shirts

Orders for Energy polo shirts are now being accepted. These polos are required for students when attending field trips and other group events, so be sure to get yours early. To place an order, email spiritstore@energyinstitutepto.org or order online. Shirts will be delivered directly to Energy for easy pickup.

Energy Institute Shines at Districtwide School Choice Magnet Fair

Energy Institute High School proudly participated in the first of four HISD School Choice Magnet Fairs, hosted at Northside High School.

Parents had the chance to connect with schools they were interested in and discover programs they didn’t even know existed. For Magnet teams and coordinators, the fair served as an exciting opportunity to showcase their campuses, share their unique offerings, and meet talented students from all across Houston.

Energy’s presence stood strong as we continued our mission to attract the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and future engineers. More fairs are on the way, and we look forward to meeting even more future EIHSers!
