Winter Formal

We are excited about our upcoming Winter Formal on Friday, December 6th. The event is at Energy from 7:30-10:00 PM and is a fundraiser for senior prom. There are two ways you can help support the event.

If you can volunteer at the event, please sign-up at www.tinyurl.com/24WinterFormalVolunteer. We are especially in need of more adults during the second shift. If you would like to donate snacks or drinks, you can sign-up at www.tinyurl.com/WinterFormalFoodDonation. Those items can be brought on Friday after school or your child can bring them to school with them later in the week, closer to the dance.

We will also be selling tickets one additional day next week - on Monday after break. There will be a table in the courtyard during both lunches. Tickets are $15 for Energy students and $20 for non-Energy guests. Please bring exact change. If you did not pick up a copy of the contract, you can print one at www.tinyurl.com/EnergyWinterFormal. 

Flex Days December 2nd & 3rd

Students will participate in two flex days on December 2nd and 3rd when we return from Thanksgiving Break. Below is the Flex Schedule for both days that show which clubs, tutorials, and study halls are offered each day. At the very end of the document is the flex period times. Please discuss with your student which activity they should attend each day so they can make the most of their time. Once students choose an activity to attend they must stay in the room the entirety of the flex period.

PSAT Results

Students who took the PSAT this fall can access their scores via the BigFuture app if they provided their phone number during registration. If no number was provided, they can request their scores by emailing Ms. Phillips at jordan.phillips@houstonisd.org with the subject line "PSAT Score".

Underclass Exhibition

Cohorts 1 through 5 held their exhibition on Thursday, November 14^th. Visitors were able to explore biomes, observe siege engines in battle, and learn about potential trade routes in space. Thank you to our students and teachers for preparing such a memorable event. We’d like to celebrate the completion of the first projects of the year:

Cohort 1 - Project Survival 

How can we, as survivalists, utilize the specific resources of a remote environment to meet basic human needs?

Cohort 2 - Houston We Have A…Solution

How can we innovate crisis-response devices that already exist to make them better suited for the Houston context?

Cohort 3 - Space: The Next Trade Route

How can we as engineers design an effective vehicle capable of traveling to a solar body in order to harvest extraterrestrial resources to be used on planet Earth?

Cohort 4 - Siege the Day

How can we as time-traveling engineers from the Renaissance use our knowledge of technology and science to more rapidly take the city of Troy?

Cohort 5 - Rights and Responsibilities

How can we, as responsible citizens, present a historical argument identifying rights associated with a national land or environmental issue prior to 1930 as a persuasive display for the NHD competition?

Senior Exhibition

Energy held our Senior Engineering Design and Development Exhibition on Tuesday, November 19^th. This exhibition served as a midpoint for the course’s year-long project where students answer the question, “How can we, as engineers, utilize the engineering design process to develop a product or service that solves a problem individuals, institutions, or the environment face?”. Throughout the evening visitors and industry partners heard presentations from each group covering their selected problem, research, and potential solution. Each group was visited by three industry partners who provided valuable feedback to help push student thinking. Next semester students will order supplies, build a working prototype, and test their proposed solution. Thank you to those who came out to support our seniors. We can’t wait to see these ideas come to life next semester.

Student Government Flag Football Fundraiser

Congratulations to the Spartans (underclass winner) and Chaos Ignite (upperclass winner) for winning their bracket in the recent flag football tournament. When the champs faced off, Chaos Ignite came out ahead. Thanks to all teams who participated. Money raised will go towards senior prom.

Cohort 1 & 2 GIS Field Trip

Today, representatives from Cohort 1 and 2 attended the Houston Area GIS Day at the University of Houston - Clear Lake! Students heard from four local professionals who utilized GIS technologies in their work and research before they dominated in "Geopardy" and GeoQuest challenges. Students then explored local universities and careers before getting to meet with local Houston agencies like HPD and METRO Houston and learning to use geospatial technologies. The best news from the trip is that our freshman WON THE GEO GAMES COMPETITION against other area schools! Shout out to our students, Adrian Tkachenko, Noah Davis, and Brendan Feng who volunteered to participate in Robots, GNSS, and pacing challenges. 

AP Environmental Science Update

In APES, we completed a lab about soil irrigation after students researched and learned about the pros and cons of four major types of irrigation. Working in groups, students devised, and then constructed models of irrigation methods. After the activity, students wrote conclusions evaluating the effectiveness of their method and connected the results to larger environmental issues in agriculture.

National Honor Society Volunteer Work

The EIHS National Honor Society organized a trip to the Houston Food Bank on Sunday, November 10th. 14 members attended the event including Addison Millis (club parliamentarian and lead organizer). NHS primarily helped with the Backpack Buddy program which is a partnership between the Houston Food Bank and Houston area schools that provides “nutritious, kid-friendly food is provided for the weekend for at-risk children in schools grade K-12 and summer meal program sites.”

Honeywell Challenge Leadership Academy Experience

During the last week of October, I had the privilege of being one of seven Texas residents selected to attend the Honeywell Challenge Leadership Academy. Since 2010, over 2,700 students from 65 countries have participated in this international, rigorous week-long course, held at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The program featured events such as two model space missions, Raspberry Pi coding, a rocket launch, and leadership training with the University of Alabama. This event was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and has created lifelong friendships and connections with people from around the globe.

Spring 2025 Graduation

Energy Institute High School Spring 2025 Graduation will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Barnett Fieldhouse (6800 Fariway, Houston, Texas 77087).

Senior Portraits

Lot Five Studios will photograph our seniors this year at their studio for their yearbook photo. Seniors must sign up for a session time and take their picture during the fall semester, before December 22^nd, to meet our Yearbook deadlines.
