Energy Holds First CTE Fair

Earlier this week, Energy Institute held our first ever CTE Fair. The fair provided opportunities for students to visit community colleges, military branches, and technical schools.

Next week Energy will be hosting a field trip to visit Universal Technical Institute as well to help support students who are interested in technical careers after high school.

Seniors - It's Time to Submit Your Acceptances

College acceptances are starting to roll in. It's time to start sharing your acceptances. Students must complete the following three steps:

  1. Mark the college decision in SchooLinks.
  2. Upload the acceptance file to SchooLinks.
  3. Submit the news at www.tinyurl.com/collegeacceptances24

We can't wait to hear the good news! We will start posting acceptances after Thanksgiving Break!

Sneak Peeks Around Campus

Here are some sneak peeks of what the students have been up to recently.

We look forward to sharing what our students do next week!

Calling Panelists for Cohort 1 Garden Project

Cohort 1 freshman students have been developing garden bed designs to add to a local community garden! This community focused project is in need of a panel of experts for our students to pitch their ideas to. We are looking for community leaders, engineers, or anyone with knowledge of gardens and outreach.

Please use this form if you are available to assist in judging our students' project pitches! Thank you in advance for your dedication to encouraging student learning!

Meet the Interns

Each issue, we will introduce you to one of our senior interns that participates in our Practicum in STEM program. These students attend school in the mornings and report to work each afternoon for either a paid or unpaid full year internship.

We are pleased to feature Manuel Ortiz this week, who is currently serving as an intern in the IT department at Hines Corporation. Manuel secured this internship through his active participation in the Genesys Works program. With aspirations to pursue a degree in computer science, he envisions a future career in IT infrastructure post-college. Expressing gratitude for his internship at Hines, Manuel emphasizes the valuable networking opportunities it has afforded him. He stays focused on the importance of being respectful and open to learning, citing these as key takeaways from his experience. Manuel has proactively seized every opportunity at work to expand his knowledge of various technological skills and learn from his colleagues to enhance his knowledge of the IT field.

If you see him around campus, feel free to ask him questions about his internship!

Become An Intern

Today the Junior classes attended presentations about the different internships students can apply for this year to participate in the program their senior year. If you would like more information about our internship program or would like to partner with Energy Institute to offer student internships, please contact Mrs. Garcia (lauren.garcia@houstonisd.org).
