Middle School Design Challenge

On Saturday, December 2, Energy welcomed nearly 80 middle school students to our Middle School Design Challenge. Students had the opportunity to meet other potential classmates, teachers, administrators, and upperclass students. During the event students participated in a series of STEM challenges on a team. The winning teams received medals created in-house on our laser cutters. It was so great to meet so many of our future Energy students! And a huge thank you to everyone who took the time on a Saturday to help with the event.

UTI Field Trip

On Friday, December 8th, 35 students had the opportunity to attend the Universal Technical Institute (UTI). UTI is the leading training provider for students preparing for careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle, marine, CNC machining, and welding technicians. Trades are a hidden gem but are perfect for Energy students as they can carry over the skill sets they have learned in their high school manufacturing and engineering classes.

Congratulations Ms. Olga

Congratulations to Ms. Olga on her well deserved retirement. Olga has been at Energy from almost the beginning and will be greatly missed. She has been the first person on-campus every day for years and has put so much hard work into the school. She is looking forward to sleeping in! Congratulations Olga!

Digital SAT Is Coming

Energy students took the Digital PSAT this fall. Starting in 2024, the SAT will be transitioning to a digital exam as well. We have teamed up with Revolution Prep to offer students more support and additional resources. Revolution Prep is offering our students an opportunity to take the new Digital SAT Practice exam online for free! The test will take place at home on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You can register at https://www.revolutionprep.com/partners/139673/. Students will receive a detailed score report and will be able to review the exam and wrong answers. They will also be able to meet with a Revolution Prep to review their score. This is a great opportunity to get extra practice in for juniors prior to the Spring SAT.

Seniors - It's Time to Submit Your Acceptances

College acceptances are starting to roll in. It's time to start sharing your acceptances. Students must complete the following three steps:

  1. Mark the college decision in SchooLinks.
  2. Upload the acceptance file to SchooLinks.
  3. Submit the news at www.tinyurl.com/collegeacceptances24

We can't wait to hear the good news! We will start posting acceptances after Thanksgiving Break!

Sneak Peeks Around Campus

Here are some sneak peeks of what the students have been up to recently.

Become An Intern

Recently the Junior classes attended presentations about the different internships students can apply for this year to participate in the program their senior year. If you would like more information about our internship program or would like to partner with Energy Institute to offer student internships, please contact Mrs. Garcia (lauren.garcia@houstonisd.org).

Congratulations to our Tesla Winners Mr. Dean and Mr. Molina!

Mr. Dean, Math Teacher

Ms. Bolen presented the Mr. Tesla Award to Mr. Dean. She said, "To a teacher that builds student relationships and classroom culture first, that seems the whole student and their needs across multiple disciplines, that has a green thumb and heart of gold, I present the Tesla Award to Michael Dean!"

Congratulations to Mr. Dean!

Mr. Molina, Engineering Teacher

Mr. Dean presented the Mr. Tesla Award to Mr. Molina. He said, "This week's Tesla Award goes to someone who pulls a lot of weight at Energy, someone who single handedly inspires and encourages our often reluctant seniors to envision and produce their capstone projects, someone who inspires me with their constantly positive, kind, and light-hearted way of being. With gratitude I pass on our Tesla to our proven STEM Ally, Mr. Paul Molina!"

Congratulations to Mr. Molina!
