Final Exams

Fall semester final exams will take place December 16 - December 21st. Final exams are 10% of a student's semester average, so students should begin reviewing for final exams soon. Below is a school-wide final exam schedule. A cohort specific one can be found on the second tab of the Energy Bell Schedule document. Lunch is available from 11:00-11:30 AM and buses will depart at 11:30 AM. There are no exemptions for fall final exams.

Cohort 1 students have been working on designing a flower bed for the community garden they recently went to on a field trip. Students are aiding in the Third Ward and looking at reducing food deserts through the use of community gardens. The Community Garden will be adding a flower bed to help attract pollinators to the garden in order to increase the yield of crops and longevity of the garden. Students will be presenting their garden bed pitches and a winner will be selected to return to the garden and actually build their garden bed. Presentations will be on December 7th, and we are looking for professional judges to help pick the winning group! If you are interested in judging, please fill out this form.

Spread the Word about Energy Institute!

Do you know any families interested in learning more about what Energy has to offer? There are several events coming up that we'd love for you to share with families you know who are interested in Energy Institute! This year is the first year we are back to normal Magnet recruiting since Covid. Energy has hit the group running with activity! In October we held our first annual Fall Middle School Design Challenge. Students from all over Houston ISD participated in the Float Your Boat and Punkin' Chunkin' Challenges. The winning group was $25 Amazon Gift Cards. Ms. Alexander, our Magnet Coordinator, has visited 33 middle schools in the last few weeks recruiting new students. Our PTO has held numerous parent coffees to allow prospective parents a chance to ask questions in a casual environment. We have officially started weekly Magnet Tours on Thursdays at 1:00 PM. Also, each Tuesday night Ms. Alexander also has a standing TEAMS meeting from 6:00 - 7:00 PM for prospective parents and students. Student ambassadors are on the call as well to talk about PBL and Energy Institute. Below is the flyer weekly Teams Meetings.

Covid-19 Testing Is Back

HISD and Fulgent Genetics have partnered again this year for free On-site Covid-19 testing.  Free Covid-19 testing will occur during lunch on December 14th. If you would like your child to test, parents must complete the consent form at www.houstonisd.org/COVIDtesting. Students will be reminded during the morning announcements to come to the testing site at lunch time on the day of testing. There will not be individual notices or personal reminders to come test. Please have your child set an alarm or appointment date on their phone or computer. Results will be sent to families directly.

STAAR Re-testing Schedule

Although the online informational meeting has passed, you can use the flyer above for information on how to nominate a student for testing and for information on who to contact with questions.

Calling All Athletes

If you play a sport at your zoned campus, please complete the Sports Participation Notification Form. The form must be completed for each sport at least two weeks prior to your first competition. Ms. De La Rosa chose Mr. Hamilton for the Tesla Award recipient. Mr. Hamilton teaches Robotics, Computer Programming, and Solid Works. He also sponsors VEX Robotics, which is a huge commitment!

Ms. De La Rosa said, "Thank you for all you do for our school, our students, and VEX. You are a true educator! You lead by example. You are so young at heart, eager, and energetic! (And on one leg!) Thank you for giving your most important asset - TIME!!"

Senior News and Information

Applications Numbers are in!

Congratulations to our seniors! They have been hard at work completing college applications. 83% of the seniors submitted an application by the December 1 deadline! College acceptances and scholarship notifications are starting to arrive! Seniors - don't forget to follow up with you deans and share the good news! Any student who needs help with their applications should see their dean or Ms. Cortinas in the College Room.

Due to the days off this week (because of the Houston water issues), we will be rescheduling our senior yearbook portraits to January 10 and 11, 2023 during PBL Skills. All seniors will take their yearbook photo (cap/gown image) on these days. If you know you will not be at school one of those days, you need to sign up for a portrait weekend session in December otherwise you will not have your picture in the yearbook. We don’t want this to happen, so please plan ahead! Please review the attached flyer for more information from Lot Five Studios. If you want to schedule an in-person session with the photographer to get multiple senior portrait images taken, you must sign up for sessions this weekend (December 3rd and 4th or December 10th and 11th). Those are the ONLY two weekends blocked off for Energy where you can schedule these full portrait sessions. Please go to www.lotfivestudios.com/EIHS2023 to make an appointment. Lot Five Studios will also be sending out reminders about the portrait sessions and how to prepare for them to your HISD email, so keep an eye out for that communication.

Order Your Cap and Gown!

It's time for seniors to order caps and gowns. There is no charge as this is included in senior dues. Students still need to place an order for their size! Please scan the QR code or click here, complete the form, and submit the "order" to process it.

Please complete this this as soon as possible.

Senior Dues - Pay Today!

Senior dues cover graduation ceremony costs, a professional graduation photo on stage, the yearbook, a graduation cap and gown, the diploma cover, a senior class panoramic picture, senior t-shirt, senior breakfast, prom, senior picnic (or other fun selected activity), and more senior week activities.

The Early Bird time period has expired. Students should pay their senior dues before prices increase again. Senior students should see their dean if there are any economic concerns and make sure they have completed the Socioeconomic Form. Visit our website for more information.

Purchase Your Energy Polo Today

Energy has three modes of dress. Energy students are required to wear a blue Energy polo for field trips, certain guest speakers, and special events. These are purchased through our PTO store and can be picked up by students at the PTO office (in the B building) on Wednesdays during lunch. Shirts are $25. As special field trips and events are starting up, it's important that anyone who does not already have one, gets one purchased. Visit the PTO store to purchase yours today. All students should have one purchased by the end of September.
