Congratulations Team 3674G!

Team 3674 G, Energy's all-girls VEX Robotics team, competed against 39 other teams from across the region at the Katy Powwow tournament and finished the day as Tournament Champions. The hard-fought victory propels the team into the TX State Championship later in February.

The team also won the Innovate Award which recognizes an effective and well-documented design process for a novel aspect of the team’s robot design or gameplay strategy.

National History Day with Cohort 5

This past weekend, Cohort 5 students competed in the National History Day (NHD) competition at Young Women's High School. I have CCed them on this email so they can access the photos that were taken as well.

Zachary Jackson, Senia Zeigler, Soham Mediwala, Asher Gardner, Jorge Lopez, Kayden Schumacher, John Evans, and Alistair Hardy competed at the local Exhibit board competition. John Evans and Alistair Hardy placed second with "The Legacy of Spindletop" and will be moving on to the state competition at the University of Texas - Austin.

Teen Delegate

"On Tuesday, February 4th I served as a teen delegate to lobby the Texas House of Representatives in Austin to advocate for a $20 million increase in the budget for nonprofit security grants. I met with multiple representatives to discuss the importance of enhancing safety measures for organizations at risk. My goal was to bolster programs including the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), which provides funding for physical and cyber security enhancements to nonprofits vulnerable to terrorist attacks.  By the end of the day, I believe I successfully garnered additional support for this critical initiative, contributing to the state’s commitment to public safety." - Brandon Kamin

Cohort 5

In Cohort 5, students have written the first draft of their college essays. This week, students did a gallery walk of the essay to gather inspiration from their peers and see if they could identify who wrote which essay. They then participated in a peer edit and will revise their essays this week.

AP Human Geography

In AP Human Geography, students are binding the children's books they wrote and sharing them with the students at Sheer Love Rwanda in Kigali, Rwanda to share their research on the diffusion of crops over the three agricultural revolutions. They are also hearing from the students at Sheer Love Rwanda through their recorded readings of their own children's books.

AP Environmental Science

Over the past few weeks, students in AP Environmental Science researched, planned, and built models for sustainable cities! Each city employs specific sustainable practices students learned about as they built their cities. An awards ceremony handed out awards to the following students:

  • Alek, Victor, Ian, Gavin: Cleanest Drinking Water
  • Gerson, Bethany, Victor, David, Jordan: Most Biodiverse City, Healthiest Aquatic Ecosystem, Most Sustainably Harvested Resources
  • Logan, Lucas, Samuel, Shane, Paolo: Lowest Carbon Emissions
  • Zane, Leo, Grace, Joe, Daniel: Lowest Urban Runoff, Healthiest Agricultural Fields

A special shoutout to Zane, Leo, Grace, Joe, and Daniel, who were voted on by their classmates as having the overall Most Sustainable City, and earned the key to their city!
