Spring Semester Reminders

We are excited to have everyone back on campus. We want to remind everyone of a few campus expectations:

• Cell Phones/ Smart Watches/ Earbuds
• Cell phones are not used during class time but are placed in phone holders at the beginning of each class.
• Smart Watches should be kept at home & and cannot be worn at school.
• Earphones cannot be worn entering the building, during class time, or between passing periods.
• Earphones can be worn at lunch
• Dress Code
• No PJ bottoms or tops unless it is tied to a spirit day.
• No athletic pants, shorts, or warm-ups.
• Shoes (including Crocs) must have a strap around the ankle.
• Shirts must cover the midriff.
• Hats are not allowed to be worn during school hours.
• IDs must be worn on a lanyard around the neck at all times.
• Tardy Policy
• Starting in the Spring, student tardies will reset.
• On the 3rd tardy and any tardy thereafter, students will be assigned an hour lunch detention.
• Tardies that extend beyond 20 min of any class are then considered absences.
• Students can get lunch detention for accumulated tardies for any classes throughout the day.

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Field Trip



On Tuesday, March 19, a group of seniors visited the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Here, the group was able to see the second largest bank vault in the United States, where 1,400lb containers known as "busses" containing up to $45 million are delivered from the excess reserves of commercial banks in the region. We observed how robots move these busses out of the vault and deliver them to rooms where the Fed scans and inspects all the notes. Legally mandated to operate 24/7, the process is a combination of automated scanning and human confirmation, and any bills matching a variety of criteria are removed from circulation and destroyed. As a parting gift, each student received a bag of shredded cash!

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Speaker in Ted Talk Space



We are so grateful to have the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas speak to our Algebra 2 students during school on March 22nd. It was amazing to hear the questions students had and the information brought forth to our students.

9th - 11th Grade Exhibition



We are so grateful to staff, students, and parents for making our most recent Exhibition a success. Thank you for attending and showing support for the amazing work our students have accomplished.

Energy Heroes 5892

 Energy Heroes did a clean-up of the green space between B building and the cafeteria on Mar. 2^nd. Energy Heroes went to their first competition of the 24 Crescendo FRC event and ranked 3^rd in the competition. Energy Heroes were also recognized for the Innovation in Control Award. This award is given to the team that shows the most advances in the electrical, mechanical, and software functions of the robot. “Treble Shooter” did phenomenally with the two amazing drivers Chloe Phan and Sophie Morita, coached by Rishab Subramanya and supported on the field by Milo Greene. The students have had many restless moments throughout the competition from the intake of the robot not working to the software not working properly; so to be recognized for the hard work and dedication the team had throughout the matches shows a strong student collaboration and goal-oriented mindset of the team. We could not be prouder of the students. We have amazing FRC parent boosters that help make every moment for our students memorable.

DeBakey Cell Lab Internship at The Health Museum

The Health Museum is proud to announce the launch of a high school internship program this summer, which will be held in the esteemed DeBakey Cell Lab. The program will offer aspiring interns the invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the lab while also receiving professional development training. This six-week program will include professional development sessions on Saturdays in collaboration with professionals from the Texas Medical Center. This is an unpaid internship. However, the professional development courses are quite valuable. 

We are confident that the high school internship program will provide an enriching and insightful experience for all participants and have the potential to inspire and enable future generations of medical professionals and scientists.

Senior Dues

It's time to pay senior dues. Senior dues covered the costs associated with the graduation ceremony, a professional graduation photo, yearbook, cap and gown, diploma cover, senior panoramic picture, senior events, senior t-shirt, senior breakfast, prom (senior's ticket), and senior week activities. If the senior class decides to add additional events, those may incur additional costs.

Financial Aid

Just a reminder, completion of financial aid is a graduation requirement in the state of Texas. The priority deadline for financial aid has been pushed to April 15^th due to extenuating circumstances but it is optimal to get these forms completed early to qualify for the maximum amount of federal and state aid. Start on the process by making an account at studentaid.gov

If you need assistance with the financial aid form for your students, Ms. Cortinas has appointments open during lunch and after school next week from March 4^th to March 7^th
