25 Year Anniversary
Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. We pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the first responders who courageously answered the call that day, and recognize the service members and veterans who answered our nationโs call in the years that followed.
As we reflect 25 years later, we are reminded of the courage, sacrifice, patriotism, and unity that emerged during one of our nationโs darkest moments. We are especially grateful to those in our own community who have servedโand continue to serveโour country. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

๐Tesla Award
Tesla is on the move again! This week, Ms. Morthel passed the Tesla Award on to Ms. Thomas, a fellow freshman teacher who continues to show just how much of an impact one person can make.
Ms. Thomas was recognized for her dedication to student success, her commitment to making everyone feel welcome, and the countless ways she gets involved beyond the classroom. From supporting our freshmen to serving as a sponsor for multiple student clubs, Ms. Thomas is always finding ways to show up, pitch in, and help students find their place at Energy. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Thomas on a well-deserved Tesla Award!

Alas! We have arrived to our first Flex schedule! Next week we have the flex schedule on Monday and Tuesday which adds an extra time slot to the day for tutorials and club meetings. Monday will be dedicated to tutorials to catch up on grades before the first report card locks. Tuesday will be utilized for our annual Club Fair. The rest of the week will resume as normal.
As a reminder, the following week, September 21st, is a student holiday while staff have professional development which will result in the Wednesday Rainbow schedule being dropped for the week.

Restroom System
This week, Energy launched SMART Pass, our digital restroom pass system! After receiving permission from their teacher, students can access SMART Pass through the Clever app and submit a restroom pass before leaving the classroom. Students are allotted two restroom passes per day.
SMART Pass helps us better manage student movement throughout the building, minimize missed instructional time, and keep our hallways safe and orderly. Returning students are familiar with this system whereas our new students will quickly get used to this system.
| ๐ Laptop Chargers are In

Good news - replacement laptop chargers arrived early this week! This primarily impacted our freshmen, and while many students were able to pick theirs up this week, if you missed your opportunity, stop by the Tech Room to check out your charger.
Once you have it, keep it safe and keep track of it! Chargers are checked out to individual students, and lost chargers result in a replacement fee. Toss it in your backpack, find it a safe spot at home, and give that charger the love it deserves - your laptop (and your wallet) will thank you!

Dress Code Reminders ๐ | |
Now that weโre settling into the school year, hereโs a quick reminder to dress for success and keep it Energy appropriate! Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be no shorter than four inches above the knee, and shirts should fully cover the midriff, have straps at least three inches wide, and may not be tied in the back. Athletic wear โ including athletic shorts, sweats, joggers, leggings, jeggings, tights, and dance/athletic pants โ is not permitted, nor is clothing with holes, rips, or shredding. Pajama pants and slippers should stay home along with blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals.
Slides, flip-flops, Crocs/Croc-style shoes, and shoes without a back strap are not permitted, and closed-toe shoes may be required for STEM labs. Taking a quick look before heading out the door helps everyone avoid dress code issues and keeps us focused on a great day of learning! A full description can be found on our website here.

All students have now received their official student ID badge, which should be worn and visible while inside the building. IDs help us quickly identify who belongs on campus and are an important part of keeping our Energy community safe. Students may remove IDs during PE and certain lab activities when necessary, but should put them back on afterward.
Forgot it? Stop by the Front Office for a temporary ID pass - the cost is $1 or a detention. Lost it? Replacement IDs can be purchased for $5 in the Tech Room with Mr. Hill. All campus visitors must check in through the Front Office, sign in, and wear a temporary visitor ID while on campus.

Are you interested in teaching, mentoring, and building your leadership skills? The SYP Volunteer Teacher program is a great opportunity for students to share their knowledge and make a positive impact by teaching and mentoring middle school students (and your resume!).
As an SYP Volunteer Teacher, youโll have the opportunity to:
- Share your knowledge and skills with younger students
- Mentor and encourage middle school students
- Develop valuable leadership and communication skills
- Be part of a community focused on creating opportunities for students

Seniors, itโs time to schedule your senior portrait session! All seniors must sign up for a senior portrait session with Lot Five Studios.
Photo sessions are held at Lot Five Studios, located at 3524 E T C Jester Blvd, with appointments available throughout the day and on weekends. The next available sessions are September 11โ13th. Donโt see a time that works for you? No worries! Lot Five Studios adds new sessions on a rolling basis, so be sure to check back regularly for additional availability.

5 Consecutive A Ratings
Energy Institute HS has achieved five consecutive "A" ratings from the state, HISD designated it for Level 5 Autonomy. Formally approved in March 2026, the HB 1882 agreement shifts day-to-day management of Energy Institute HS to the nonprofit board, Friends of Energy Institute, starting in the 26โ27 school year.
