From Classrooms to Commons, Open House Shines

Energy Institute buzzed with activity on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, as families filled the halls for Open House from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Parents walked their student’ schedules, met teachers, and gathered in cohorts to hear about upcoming project launches and campus activities. Before the main event, Title I and CCMR hosted brief sessions to share resources and answer questions. The night ran on warm hellos, quick hallway maps, and plenty of proud moments, everywhere you looked, there were smiles. Thank you to our Energy Ambassadors who volunteered and helped welcome and guide our parents between classes.

Snack Attack! Ms. Hamilton’s Art Class Goes 3D

Ms. Hamilton’s artists are turning everyday materials into mouth-watering 3D masterpieces. The goal: build craftsmanship by layering and shaping simple supplies into a polished final piece. This unit’s project: papier-mâché food sculptures, asks students to plan, construct, and finish a playful work that “serves” big personality.

How it worked: students (1) planned by sketching their sculpture, (2) created a template by drawing and cutting basic shapes, and (3) built a sturdy base before assembling the pieces. The guiding question kept creativity cooking: “How is your food exaggerated?” From bold textures to larger-than-life scale, students pushed design choices to make their work pop. 🍎🎨

Underclass Picture Days: Sept. 16–17

Underclass yearbook photos will be taken Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17 at Energy Institute. Students will be photographed during their PBL Skills class—no separate appointment needed. Please arrive on time and follow the campus dress code so your photo is ready for the yearbook.

College Rep Visits: Caltech & Case Western

Students got first-hand insights from two campuses this week. Mon., Sept. 8: Mr. Lee from Caltech covered academics, research, campus life, and admissions, with a lively Q&A. Tue., Sept. 9: Ms. Brooke from Case Western Reserve University highlighted rigorous programs, an innovative learning culture, student life, scholarships, and support resources. These sessions helped students picture their next steps, and what “fit” could look like.

Gears Turning: VEX Robotics Sets a New Record at Energy IHS

Energy Institute is buzzing with bots. Our VEX program is off to a strong start, with the largest group we’ve ever had: 48 students signed up and ready to compete. Under the 3674 team number, four VEX Robotics teams are meeting twice a week and hitting Saturday tournaments, building momentum right out of the gate.

What’s happening in the lab? Students are sketching ideas, modeling parts, building frames, wiring systems, and coding autonomous routines, then testing, tweaking, and testing again. The goal is simple: smarter designs, cleaner code, and better teamwork every week. Keep an eye on the tournament calendar, these teams are already making noise.
