Open House

We look forward to seeing our parents next week at Open House! This is a parent only event that takes place on Wednesday, September 20th from 5:30 PM - 7:45 PM. Parents will have an opportunity to meet their child's teachers and learn about content, processes, projects, and more. Your child will bring home a personalized schedule on Tuesday and will be asked to text you a copy of it as a back-up. Please bring the schedule with you to avoid delays. Open House is a quick moving night, so please arrive on time. You wouldn't want to get a detention for being late!

Another Project Launch!

Last week, Cohort 4 launched their first project, “Acropolis to Astroworld: Current(i) Wonders.” Over the next few weeks, students will research ancient/classical societies and the monumental architecture built by these societies in order to design and build a model of a “wonder” that exemplifies Houston's culture. Student teams started learning about and working with circuits this week since their final “wonder” will incorporate the power of electricity. Tour these modern wonders at our campus exhibition on November 16th.

Thank you to the following for sharing your expertise with our students for this project today as guest speakers: Claudia Cepeda - Senior Parking Design with Walter P. Moore and ACE Mentor, Lori Amador - Planner of Facilities Planning Design and Construction with UT MD Anderson and ACE Mentor, and Beth Otto - Senior Architect and Lead Planner of Facilities Planning Design and Construction with UT MD Anderson.

Underclass Student Government will have a slightly different calendar:

Applications -open 9/18

Info Meeting - 9/19

Deadline - 9/26

Campaigning - 9/26-9/29

Elections -10/6

Come to the meeting on Tuesday for more information! It will be in the Ted Talk Space during your lunch.

Posse Semi-Finalists

Energy is proud to announce that Posse selected 19 Energy students as semi-finalists for their Posse Scholarship program ! For the first round students submitted a lengthy application similar to a college application and attended a dynamic group interview. For the semi-final round, students will submit another, more in-depth application and attend a one-on-one interview. After this round, 20 students will be selected in the Houston area to attend a final interview with representatives from one of five schools: Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Bryan Mawr College, Carleton College, and Colby College. Ten Houston students will receive a full tuition scholarship as well as other special supports from each of those schools. Congratulations and good luck to our semi-finalists: Adam Briones, Olivia Carter, Alexa Castro, Isabella Gabrilska, Aaron Gleitman, Mira Green, Milo Greene, Muhsin Harrison, Arthur King, Austin King, Maeve McCosh, Lorena Marron, Isabella Olivares-Reed, Devin Rachels, Vivaan Rupani, Chris Solis, Lola Tovar, Immanuel Young, and Isabelle Zaske. What a great group of students!

Rensselaer Awards $120,000 Scholarship to Otto Mallinson

Congratulations to Otto Mallinson who was awarded the Rensselaer Medal by Rensselaer Polytechnic University! The Medal is designed to recognize the superlative academic achievement of young men and women, and to motivate students toward careers in science, engineering, and technology. This merit scholarship, with a value of $30,000 per year, is guaranteed for four years for each Medalist who is accepted and enrolls at Rensselaer.

Otto is a stand-out student who ranks near the top of his class, has a strong SAT score, and participates in a wide array of volunteer work and activities including the Energy Project where his team was awarded a $5000 grant through the Puranik Foundation to develop Karot home aquapinic systems.

Congratulations to Otto! A representative from RPI presented his award during their college visit earlier this week.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Reminders - Three Areas to Work On

We appreciate that most families are following the pick-up and drop-off procedures. Below are three of the rules that we still need additional work on:

  1. Do not stop on Tierwester or Southmore. Students should not be picked up or dropped off on the main street.
  2. You may only drop off in the right hand lane. This is a major safety issue!
  3. Do not leave gaps between cars. Pull all the way up.
