Remembering Jane Lange

On June 6, 2022, Energy Institute and the world lost Jane Lange, one of our bright lights, to Leukemia. Jane was a beautiful soul who was kind, loving, artistic, and passionate about learning. Even while she was sick, she still wanted to keep learning as much as possible. Jane was part of the Class of 2023 and will be missed.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and we would like to honor Jane's memory by collecting money and making a group donation to B.I.G. Love Cancer Care. This is an organization that was near and dear to Jane's heart and helped make her inpatient time brighter.

If you would like to participate, you can send a donation via Paypal (@NoelleMacGregor), Venmo (@Noelle-MacGregor), or drop off cash at school in an envelope. If you donate electronically, please write in the notes "In Memory of Jane." If you donate in cash, please label the envelope "In Memory of Jane." We will be accepting donations until Friday, September 30th.

Open House is Wednesday

Energy Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21 at 5:30 PM. Students will bring home a special Open House Schedule on Tuesday. Parents will meet in the Dining Commons until 5:40 PM, when everyone moves to the first class. Come meet your child's teachers and find out more about their cohort, courses, and what it is like to be a student at Energy.

The Energy PTO will also be present with information about membership, the first general meeting, and Energy swag available for purchase.

We look forward to seeing our families!

After Open House we will host our Title 1 Parent Engagement Meeting from 7:55-8:10 PM. Join us in the Ted Talk Space for this brief meeting.

Middle School Design Challenge

All 7th and 8th grade students are invited for a morning of engineering fun on October 15th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Students will work in teams to complete a design challenge. Sign up at www.tinyurl.com/EnergyMSChallenge. We encourage our families to share this with anyone who might be interested in engineering or Energy Institute High School.

Progress Report Day and PS Connect

Progress reports are going home with students today! Please check you child's grades. If you child is struggling, encourage them to attend lunch tutorials. We have an hour long lunch so that students have plenty of time to eat and attend tutorials.

Parent Student Connect directions and log-in information were attached to the progress reports as well. Please set-up your account if you have not already done so. You can set up triggers to help you keep up with your child's grades.

Purchase Your Energy Polo Today

Energy has three modes of dress. Energy students are required to wear a blue Energy polo for field trips, certain guest speakers, and special events. These are purchased through our PTO store and can be picked up by students at the PTO office (in the B building) on Wednesdays during lunch. Shirts are $25. As special field trips and events are starting up, it's important that anyone who does not already have one, gets one purchased. Visit the PTO store to purchase yours today. All students should have one purchased by the end of September.

Calling All Athletes

If you play a sport at your zoned campus, please complete the Sports Participation Notification Form. The form must be completed for each sport at least two weeks prior to your first competition. The form allows us to approve early releases for games and verify your grades to keep you UIL eligible. There is more information on the form. Please see Ms. Garcia with any questions.

Cohort News & More

Weekly Highlights

Cohort 3

Cohort 3 launched their first project this week!

Project Title: "Changing Spaces"

Driving Question: How can we use the Engineering Design Process to develop empty lots and condemned spaces to help advance our community?

For our entry event, students first created a sketch of a storage problem in their personal lives. Then, as a group, they developed a small-scale storage model from cardboard. Finally, students researched examples of transformed spaces, and generated community feedback by getting EIHS students and staff to answer a Google Form survey.

Senior News and Information

Senior Dues - One month left for early bird dues!

It is time to start thinking about senior dues. Senior dues cover graduation ceremony costs, a professional graduation photo on stage, the yearbook, a graduation cap and gown, the diploma cover, a senior class panoramic picture, senior t-shirt, senior breakfast, prom, senior picnic (or other fun selected activity), and more senior week activities.

For the lowest cost, pay during the Early Bird pricing! Seniors should see their dean if there are any economic concerns and make sure they have completed the Socioeconomic Form. Visit our website for more information.

Featured Staff Member

Mr. Tesla Awarded to Mr. Molina

Each week one staff member is honored by another staff member for their contributions to Energy. The staff member gets to hang out with Ms. Tesla for the week and select the next recipient.

To kick things off this year, Mr. Molina received the first honor! He is deserving of this award for his hard work and dedication with the senior class in their capstone engineering course. Students must come up with a real world problem to solve and spend the year creating solutions, researching, testing, and actually building a working product.  He already has so many creative ideas on how to facilitate their work and the students are excited about their projects.

Congratulations Mr. Molina! We can't wait to see what the students come up with in your class!
