Remembering Jane Lange

On June 6, 2022, Energy Institute and the world lost Jane Lange, one of our bright lights, to Leukemia. Jane was a beautiful soul who was kind, loving, artistic, and passionate about learning. Even while she was sick, she still wanted to keep learning as much as possible. Jane was part of the Class of 2023 and will be missed.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and we would like to honor Jane's memory by collecting money and making a group donation to B.I.G. Love Cancer Care. This is an organization that was near and dear to Jane's heart and helped make her inpatient time brighter.

If you would like to participate, you can send a donation via Paypal (@NoelleMacGregor), Venmo (@Noelle-MacGregor), or drop off cash at school in an envelope. If you donate electronically, please write in the notes "In Memory of Jane." If you donate in cash, please label the envelope "In Memory of Jane." We will be accepting donations until Friday, September 30th.

Open House Coming Soon

Energy Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21 at 5:30 PM. Come meet your child's teachers and find out more about their cohort, courses, and what it is like to be a student at Energy.

The Energy PTO will also be present with information about membership, the first general meeting, and Energy swag available for purchase.

We look forward to seeing our families!

Purchase Your Energy Polo Today

Energy has three modes of dress. Energy students are required to wear a blue Energy polo for field trips, certain guest speakers, and special events. These are purchased through our PTO store and can be picked up by students at the PTO office (in the B building) on Wednesdays during lunch. Shirts are $25. As special field trips and events are starting up, it's important that anyone who does not already have one, gets one purchased. Visit the PTO store to purchase yours today. All students should have one purchased by the end of September.

Cohort News & More

Sophomore Cohort Highlights

Cohort 1

We are now three weeks into the first year the freshmen’s adventure here at Energy! So far, students have found their cohort home, learned how to be a freshman, and have been challenged along the way with various build challenges, assessments, and assignments. We have also completed a mini-project, launched our first major project, and have been learning about all the tech platforms we will be using. For their first Entry Event, students learned about survival through a lifeboat scenario, played dodgeball and sharks & minnows, and built a life-raft for some pennies. Our first driving question is How can we survive in an environment using its specific resources to meet basic human needs?

Cohort 2

Chronos (the cohort formerly known as Cohort 2) had its first exhibition this week. They have been working for the last two weeks on the “How to PBL” project getting to know their cohort teammates. Students conducted peer-to-peer interviews then constructed slide decks highlighting their fellow group members. Friday the entire cohort got together and watched each other present. We had a very successful exhibition! We are so proud of them.

Senior News and Information

Senior Dues

It is time to start thinking about senior dues. Senior dues cover graduation ceremony costs, a professional graduation photo on stage, the yearbook, a graduation cap and gown, the diploma cover, a senior class panoramic picture, senior t-shirt, senior breakfast, prom, senior picnic (or other fun selected activity), and more senior week activities.

For the lowest cost, pay during the Early Bird pricing! Seniors should see their dean if there are any economic concerns and make sure they have completed the Socioeconomic Form. Visit our website for more information.

Featured Student

Student Highlight: Daniel Rhodes

Energy is proud to highlight sophomore Daniel Rhodes.

Last summer, Daniel attended HUDL's Summer Summit. Although Daniel was a novice, he was honored for the best flow chart, The Flow Master.

The award was presented by Veronica Carroll, HUDL Director, who was so impressed by his flow that she even asked Daniel if she could use his flow chart as an example for future trainings. Ms. Carrol said that Daniel was the first novice to receive the award.

We hope that Daniel will join Debate at Energy and we look forward to watching him grow in Debate and as a student as Energy.

Congratulations Daniel!
