WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SPRAY FOAM INSULATION
Recently, Vermont Digger published a comprehensive look at spray foam insulation practices in Vermont. The story warns of the dangers of improperly installed polyurethane insulation, which has been used for many years to insulate Vermont homes, particularly older homes.
The Weatherization Team at the Energy Co-op has always used cellulose insulation above ground to eliminate the concerns outlined in this article. It's a safer alternative and better for the environment.

CLEAN HEAT STANDARD LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
The Vermont Legislature passed the Clean Heat Standard (S.5) this year. When implemented, Vermont’s heating fuel sellers will be required to reduce the amount of heating fuel used by their customers. If they don't, they'll have to buy credits from companies that install heat pumps, weatherize homes or install other measures that reduce fossil fuel use in customer's homes.

Before it can be implemented, the Vermont Public Utility Commission will collect data from heating fuel dealers on amounts that are purchased and sold and create a "clean heat credit marketplace". It's important to note that heating fuel dealers will not incur any expense until the legislature gives final approval to the plan in 2025.

The Energy Co-op is well positioned to meet the new standards because we already install many heat pumps and weatherize customers homes. These services will provide the Co-op clean heat credits that we can use to keep the cost of heating oil and kerosene as low as possible. Click on the button below to read the final bill.
