Voices for Creation

Today, Wednesday 9 July 2025, thousands of people from across the UK are gathering at Westminster to urge MPs to show leadership that protects our health, our natural world, our communities, our climate, and our future.

Closer to home, pupils at Cawston CofE Primary Academy are stepping up as advocates for climate and nature — raising their voices to express what they care about and what they hope for the future of our planet. A new short film, Voices for Creation: church and school together, highlights the strong partnership between the school, the local church, and the Norwich Diocesan Board of Education (NDBE), which is helping ensure these children’s voices are heard — and that their concerns lead to real action.

The Bishop of Norwich's Certificate in Christian Learning

Do you feel ready to embark on a spiritual journey which could deepen your Christian faith? The Bishop's Certificate of Christian Learning is an opportunity to feel refreshed and inspired, or simply to learn more about the Christian faith.

It's open to anyone, if you're a new Christian, or you've been a Christian for years.

The first course launched this year and 25 people took part. The next one starts in September, so now is a good time to think about whether this course might be for you.

#GreatAndSmall Summer Campaign

Encourage people to visit your local church by taking part in the Church of England summer campaign: #GreatAndSmall - celebrating animals at church.

You might remember previous summer campaigns including #ChurchDoorChallenge and #StainedGlass Summer. This year, we'd love to see your pictures of animals in churches, or within your church grounds. Whether it's a snapshot of some local wildlife, pets visiting church, depictions of animals in stained glass windows, paintings and carvings, we want to hear from you.

Simply take the picture, upload it onto your social media page if you have one and use the hashtag #GreatAndSmall

It would also be great if you could tag @dioceseofnorwich so we can collect the photos locally too and create a gallery from parishes across the whole diocese.

We'll get the ball rolling with a picture of the Pakefield Church Sheep. (More on this soon).

News across Norfolk and Waveney

Church open – for decades thanks to Don!

For more than half a century Donald Gotts has opened beautiful Harpley church to visitors, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. Don has lived in the village, between King’s Lynn and Fakenham, all his life and has hardly missed a day since he volunteered, back in the 1960s, to unlock the door to the ancient church every morning and relock it every evening.

Sculpture commissioned by St Peter Mancroft Church as a gift to Norwich

Norwich has welcomed a major new artwork by acclaimed sculptor Peter Walker. Suspended three metres above the nave of St Peter Mancroft Church, and measuring 6.3 metres across, HIDDEN is a luminous, large-scale installation made of shimmering textiles and light – a contemplative work that asks: What lies beneath the surface?

A Memorable Farewell: Year 6 Leavers Service and Workshop at Norwich Cathedral

Clare Williams, Head of Schools & Family Learning at the Cathedral said:

“We love this special event and wish all the pupils present, and in Year 6 across the Diocese, God’s blessing as they head off to secondary school. We hope that many more schools will join us next year to share this special time of being together as a Diocesan family.”

St Benet's - two summer services at isolated Broads beauty-spot

Two special services will be held in the atmospheric riverside ruins of St Benet’s Abbey this month.

On St Benedict’s Day, this Friday July 11, people are invited to join a community pilgrimage walk, service and picnic from St Benedict’s Church in Horning to St Benet’s (a contraction of the name Benedict) Abbey, near Ludham.
