CLIMATE CHANGE TRAINING AND LITERACY
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Public Service Climate Literacy suite is now publicly accessible. Explore how our lives and our work affect the climate, and how the changing climate affects us. Initially developed to support climate literacy learning within the federal public service, these courses are now available to support climate learning for all Canadians.

Applying Climate Literacy Foundations: core climate change science, solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to the coming impacts, key impacts on biodiversity, health, food, and water, and how climate governance challenges us to work together over time. (3 hours)

Contributing to a Net-zero Canada: the energy transition, solutions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across Canadian sectors and regions, and the policy and governance that will facilitate Canada’s net-zero future. (2 hours)

Adapting to a Changing Climate in Canada: climate impacts and crucial terminology for understanding adaptation and resilience, a toolkit of adaptation actions, and an in-depth exploration of Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy. (2 hours)

ENERGY PARTNERSHIP
Are you a part of our Energy Partnership Table? The Energy Partnership Table is an opt-in multi-stakeholder forum where we exchange information, pool resources, and advance community and regional energy priorities. The table includes:
- The Energy Table Talks - quarterly opportunities to connect and explore a topic.
- The Energy Toolkit - a webpage of curated resources.
- The Energy Bulletin - important updates on events, funding and resources.
The Energy Partnership Table is a space for respectful dialogue, where diverse perspectives are welcome and collaboration and agility fuel creative solutions and hope. Please reach out and join the table, share your suggestions, ideas, projects, and stories!

INDIGENOUS INSURANCE PROGRAM
AON provides an Indigenous Insurance Program for communities that are not members of the NWTAC Insurance program. Indigenous Services Group (ISG) is a dedicated segment within Aon. For more than 30 years they have provided insurance and risk management solutions specifically designed to meet the unique needs of Canada’s Indigenous communities, associations, economic development corporations, tribal councils, education authorities, governments and health services

MUNICIPAL FUNDING GAP
On June 10, Yellowknife Centre MLA Robert Hawkins introduced a motion calling on the Government to reallocate funding to implement policies addressing closing the municipal funding gap. This gap was first identified in 2014.
A June 10 Cabin Radio article details responses by the MLAs, some who spoke to their experiences working in municipal politics.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGES ACT
The Government of Canada has reformed Canada’s official languages regime by modernizing the Official Languages Act and enacting a new law, the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act. To give concrete expression to the various elements of that reform, the Government has committed to developing and implementing two new sets of regulations:
- Regulations supporting the coming into force of the Commissioner of Official Languages’ new power to impose administrative monetary penalties on certain entities subject to the Official Languages Act
- Regulations establishing the enforcement regime for the new Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act
The Government needs all the relevant information to make informed decisions. To this end, it has issued a questionnaire to the general public and stakeholders that will run from May 9th, 2024, to July 3rd, 2024.

Applications are now open for FCM’s Sustainable Communities Awards. The awards honour the most innovative and sustainable initiatives in Canadian cities and communities of all sizes. Award categories range from sustainable buildings to climate adaptation and recognize projects that achieve social, economic and secondary environmental benefits and integrate anti-racism, equity and inclusion and reconciliation principles.
Award applications are due by June 28, 2024.

The Community Development Grants have two funding streams.
