THIRD AND FINAL CALL
The third and final call for resolutions has gone out for the NWTAC AGM in February 2025! Councils have until 5 PM on January 24, 2025, to submit resolutions and have your community’s priorities addressed.

AGM AWARD NOMINATIONS
We are thrilled to invite nominations for this year’s awards, which will be presented at our 2025 AGM. These awards recognize and celebrate leadership, resilience, and innovation in NWT communities.
Award Categories
Energy Excellence Award: For leadership in energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Climate Change Resilience Award: For proactive action addressing climate change and building community resilience.
Community Builder Awards: Recognizing outstanding contributions, leadership, and long service. Categories include:
- Community Builder: Exemplary leadership by current or past elected officials.
- Community Service Award: Exceptional contributions by individuals, organizations, or businesses.
- Roll of Honour (Long Service): For elected officials with 15+ years of service.
- Evelyn Krutko Mighty Warrior Award: For residents exemplifying courage, leadership, and dedication.
Healthy Communities Award: For fostering healthy lifestyles through programs promoting physical activity, nutrition, and mental well-being.

ONLINE CLIMATE CHANGE COURSES
We’re excited to share that Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Public Service Climate Literacy suite is now open to all Canadians! These engaging courses provide essential knowledge on how climate change impacts us and how we can take action to adapt and mitigate its effects.
These courses are designed to help all Canadians build climate literacy, drawing on the expertise of national leaders and Indigenous perspectives. We encourage you to take the Climate Literacy Foundations course today and challenge yourself to complete all three (~7 hours total). Please share with your networks to help strengthen our collective commitment to climate action!

2025 NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN
Have a project that can benefit your community? The Arctic Inspiration Prize is your chance to make it happen! Here’s how you can apply:
- Have an idea that addresses key northern issues.
- Build a diverse team led by a Northerner.
- Pick the right prize category – Youth, $500K, or $1 Million.
- Find an AIP Ambassador to support your nomination.
- Submit a Letter of Intent by Oct 21 or your Youth Inspiration Proposal by Oct 28, 2024.
- Submit your full nomination by Feb 24, 2025!

INDSPIRE POST-SECONDARY PROGRAMS
For full and part-time studies in college, university, skilled trades, apprenticeships, and technology programs.
There is one application for all of Indspire’s bursaries and scholarships (with a few exceptions that you’ll see below). You only need to complete the application once to be considered for all applicable bursaries and scholarships. September 2024 to August 2025 academic year.
Deadlines: August 1, November 1, February 1 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

CAPITAL PROJECT APPLICATIONS
The Active Transportation Fund supports the development and enhancement of active transportation networks to provide Canadians with the opportunity to safely and affordably reach destinations by active modes of transportation. Eligible projects include the construction or improvement of sidewalks, multi-use paths, and bike lanes. A minimum of 10% of the funding will be allocated to projects benefiting Indigenous communities.
Applications for capital projects will be accepted through HICC’s Funding Portal until February 26, 2025, while applications from eligible Indigenous applicants will continue to be accepted until April 9, 2025.
To assist potential applicants in determining eligibility and preparing an
application for capital funding, the Active Transportation Fund has provided

SHIPPING COST OFFSET
New one-time funding is available for the Sahtu and Beaufort Delta regions impacted by barge cancellations due to low water. Businesses and Indigenous and community governments can apply for this funding to offset shipping costs when bringing in essential goods to their communities.

The Economic Development & Environment Committee is holding a public briefing on Bill 11: An Act to Amend the Motor Vehicles Act and is seeking input on proposed changes to the Bill. These include updates to document rules, data requests, and ID photo requirements. The Bill also aims to support population estimates and prevent identity fraud.
