A key component of the Jack Layton Legacy initiative, a partnership between ICL and the Douglas-Coldwell-Layton Foundation, is to support and encourage groups and individuals who are committed to organizing for change in their community.

ARCTIC INSPIRATION PRIZE
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2022 prize with up to 10 teams able to win prize money to help them launch initiatives that will bring about the changes they want to see in their communities.

WORKSHOPS, TRAINING, AND TOOLKITS
|
|
YOUTH COUNCIL TOOLKIT
Ways that municipal leaders can foster political participation among young people and meaningfully engage them in key decision-making processes.
|
|
GENDER-RESPONSIVE PUBLIC BUDGETING WORKSHOP
This free course is an introduction to gender-responsive budgeting and is directed to municipal staff as well as elected officials. It will also be of interest to civil society members engaged in municipal action.
|
|
TUNDRA SCIENCE AND CULTURE CAMP
The TSCC is an immersive, 10-day educational program for NWT high-school-aged students ages 14-17, and educators, offered by the GNWT. The program is delivered by educators and leaders in Indigenous Culture and Environmental Science who collaborate to provide a fun and rewarding on-the-tundra multidisciplinary learning experience.
Camp runs from July 26 - August 4
The deadline to apply is July 22, 2022 or until full.

AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD RESEARCH PROGRAM
Funding for agricultural research studies and pilot projects to investigate and evaluate:
• The cultivation of new agricultural crops to increase cropping choices;
• New agricultural production techniques relevant to northern agriculture;
• New agri-food processing techniques and technologies;
• New value-added agri-food products.
No established deadline; program closes March 31, 2023

AGE WELL AT HOME INITIATIVE
Funding to support projects that enable seniors to age in place by providing support under two streams.

TRANSPORT CANADA RAIL SAFETY IMPROVEMENT
Transport Canada's Rail Safety Improvement Program (RSIP) provides grant and contribution funding to improve rail safety and reduce injuries and fatalities related to rail transportation.

ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLE INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM
To address the lack of charging and refuelling stations in Canada; one of the key barriers to ZEV adoption, by increasing the availability of localized charging and hydrogen refuelling opportunities where Canadians live, work, and play.

TRANSITION TO CLEAN ENERGY
|
|
CLEAN ENERGY IN INDIGENOUS, REMOTE, AND RURAL COMMUNITIES
These funded projects can help advance Indigenous-led climate action, support local economic development and create skilled jobs while reducing pollution and improving air quality.
Continuous intake until funds have been allocated.

|
INDIGENOUS LED DATA RESEARCH PROJECTS PROGRAM
The program funds innovative Indigenous-led approaches to improving data methodologies specific to missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.

ZERO EMISSION TRANSIT FUND
Planning Projects: Eligible projects include studies, modelling and feasibility analysis that will support the development of future larger scale capital projects.
Capital Projects: Eligible capital projects include buses, charging and refuelling infrastructure, and other ancillary infrastructure needs.
Applications accepted until all funding is allocated

DISASTER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - FLOOD RECOVERY
Financial support is available to residents, small businesses, non-profit organizations, and local authorities (community governments). Applicants can apply for disaster financial assistance if the Disaster Assistance Policy has been implemented, insurance coverage was not available, or the cost exceeded what insurance covers.

ADDICTIONS RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE FUND
This program provides funding to hire community-based counsellors who will support individuals living in, or working towards, recovery and/or support community-based addictions recovery and aftercare programming in the Northwest Territories (NWT).
A maximum of $750,000 is available each year under the program.
Deadline for Applications
March 31-September 1: Indigenous governments.
September 2-March 31: Community governing authorities and non-government organizations
