NWTAC has produced a new toolkit - Communities and Research - Building Relationships and Reconciliation

Join us at this webinar to hear more about the toolkit and stories from three researchers who are putting these ideas into action through research projects with NWT communities. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion following the presentations.

Presenters include:

  • Julia Gyapay, a Research Associate with Wilfrid Laurier University. Julia conducts research and supports community-based projects on climate change adaptation and sustainable food systems across the NWT.
  • Heidi Swanson, an Associate Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University. Heidi is an aquatic ecologist focussed on northern ecosystems and is the Jarislowsky Chair in Sustainable Water Futures.
  • Dustin Whalen, a Physical Scientist with Natural Resources Canada. For over 20 years Dustin has collaborated with Tuktoyaktuk and other Inuvialuit Settlement Region communities along the Arctic coast to monitor climate change and coastal erosion.

PARTNERSHIP TABLE

RIVERBANK EROSION

Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 10 am to noon, for an important discussion on tackling riverbank erosion and its impact on communities. We invite all affected communities, GNWT partners, researchers, and anyone interested in making a positive difference. Connect with Miki Ehrlich, our partnership Facilitator, at miki@nwtac.com or 867-873-8359 for details.

This meeting is the kick-off of an ongoing riverbank erosion partnership table. The table will provide active support to reach all communities experiencing riverbank erosion, and we look forward to making real progress together through information sharing, discussion, research, and action. The NWTAC is developing a series of collaborative risk-based partnership tables to tackle the climate change risks that are the highest priority for our communities. Read more about our work in our partnerships white paper and this article on Cabin Radio or contact Miki for more information.
