HOUSING FUND WEBINAR

HOUSING ACCELERATOR FUND


Following the launch of the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) on Friday, March 17, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) will host two webinars next month aimed at providing further information to municipalities interested in applying for HAF. 

 

The webinars will take place on Thursday, April 6 at 1 pm ET and Thursday, April 13 at 1 pm ET. These webinars will offer municipalities more information about HAF’s funding details, expected outcomes and resources to support your application.

 

The CMHC program delivery team is also currently fielding inquiries from municipalities. If you wish to send questions to the CMHC directly on your municipality’s behalf, then you can do so here

CONFLICT OF INTEREST AND COUNCIL LEGAL FEES

INDIGENOUS IMPACT ASSESSMENT

INDIGENOUS CAPACITY SUPPORT PROGRAM

The Indigenous Capacity Support Program provides funding to Indigenous communities and organizations to increase their involvement and leadership in consultations related to assessments. The program has three funding streams and supports activities such as organizational capacity building, outreach, and training related to impact assessments. Eligible recipients are Indigenous communities and Indigenous organizations.

NATURAL RESOURCES

CODES ACCELERATION FUND

The Codes Acceleration Fund (CAF) will advance the Government of Canada’s action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption to fight climate change while strengthening the economy. A total of $100 million is available until March 31, 2027, and will cover two streams.

NUCLEAR ENERGY

ENABLING SMALL MODULAR REACTORS


NRCan is seeking to fund research and development (R&D) to support provinces and territories as they work to develop and deploy SMRs as part of their respective decarbonization and economic development plans.


The Program aims to support the conditions and enabling frameworks necessary for SMRs to displace fossil fuels and contribute to climate change mitigation while enhancing gender equality, diversity and inclusion in the nuclear sector.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

HEALTHY CHOICES FUND


The Healthy Choices Fund provides funding for health promotion and prevention activities in NWT communities, including preventing injuries and chronic diseases and promoting healthy living. Eligible organizations can receive between $10,000 and $75,000 in funding, with a total of $400,000 available for general projects and an additional $410,000 for seniors and reducing alcohol harm.

SUSTAINABILITY

GREENER NEIGHBOURHOODS PILOT PROGRAM


The program is focused on improving low-rise housing and testing a new renovation model. The program is looking for proposals to create "Market Development Teams" that will help building owners overcome challenges related to technical, financial, and regulatory aspects of deep energy retrofits. These teams will also provide training, organize workshops and conferences, and create reports and design guides. The program is open to for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous organizations. The grant will fund up to 100% of eligible project costs, with a minimum of $200,000 and a maximum of $1 million.

BROADBAND

BROADBAND FUND



Broadband Fund offers funding for transport projects, mobile wireless projects, and projects requiring operational funding. Eligible applicants include Canadian corporations, government organizations, and Indigenous governments with at least 3 years of experience in deploying broadband infrastructure. The maximum funding available is $750 million for 5 years.

RETROFITS

DEEP RETROFIT ACCELERATOR INITIATIVE


DRAI funds deep retrofit projects in Canada for commercial, institutional, and mid/high-rise multi-unit residential buildings. Eligible applicants include legal entities, governments, and Indigenous governing bodies. Eligible projects include identifying retrofit projects, guiding owners, identifying and implementing funding, and capacity building. Non-profit, government, and Indigenous organizations get 100% funding; for-profit organizations get 75% funding for eligible expenditures.

DISASTER MITIGATION

DISASTER MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION FUND


The DMAF is a merit-based program for infrastructure projects to reduce current and future climate-related risks from natural hazards such as floods, fires, and earthquakes. Eligible applicants include municipalities, governments, Indigenous organizations, and non-profits. Projects must address natural hazards, have minimum eligible costs of $1 million, and may include land acquisition. Eligible costs include capital, design, planning, and program requirements such as climate assessments and community benefit plans.

ENERGY INNOVATION

CCUS RD&D STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION FOCUS 


As a part of the Energy Innovation Program (EIP), this call aims to support Canada’s net zero and emissions reduction targets through advancing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) knowledge and technology development and deployment. Eligible applicants include for-profit & not-for-profit organizations, academic institutions, Indigenous & community groups, and various levels of government. Two project categories are eligible: Research & Development and Related Science Activities, and Demonstration.

NEW FUNDS AND GRANTS

COMMUNITY AND CULTURE

CREATIVE EXPORT CANADA - EXPORT-READY STREAM


The Creative Export Canada program's Export-Ready Stream provides funding for Canadian creative industries to expand internationally. The program will support projects that are already prepared for export and can generate new revenue. Eligible applicants include Canadian companies and not-for-profit organizations with less than $500M in annual revenue and at least one full-time employee. Eligible projects must support one or more of the creative industries listed and have a minimum cost of $150,000, with at least 25% of the cost funded by the applicant or private sources. Successful applicants can receive a maximum of $2.5 million.

HOUSING

HOUSING ACCELERATOR FUND



The program provides funding to local governments in Canada to increase the housing supply through initiatives like affordable housing, infrastructure, and zoning reforms. Two project streams are available: Large/Urban and Small/Rural/North/Indigenous. Applicants must develop an action plan with a target of at least 10% growth in housing supply, and complete a housing needs assessment. The funding amount will depend on the funding framework and the deadline is in the Summer of 2023 (the portal opens in June).

ADVISORY CIRCLE OF EDUCATORS


Elections Canada is looking to fill positions on its Advisory Circle of Educators (ACOE). At the invitation of Elections Canada, ACOE members serve as advisors on programming in civic education that the agency develops for schools.


ACOE members are expected to advise Elections Canada on relevant changes or developments in their educational landscapes, curriculum development, and opportunities for professional development in their communities.
