A Note From The Rev. E. Claiborne Jones
Dearly Beloved,
It is with deep gratitude and delight that I've received your cards and gifts and contributions to the "purse'. But most of all I am so thankful for your companionship during these two years. Despite a long interim time and the pandemic, you've certainly done more than muddle through. Your faithfulness in worship and fellowship and formation and in many acts of love for your neighbors and one another is an unending wonder, the incarnation of the Jesus Movement at its finest.
Soon, I pray, St. B's will have a new Rector. The Nominating Committee and the Vestry are so very wise and open-hearted to your hopes and to the workings of the Spirit. And your wardens and staff are extraordinary in supporting the people of St. B's, including priests. You are blessed.
One of the promises I made very early this year was that the Flowering of the Cross at Easter would be outside the front doors of the nave. In mid-March I promised that the first Sunday we could worship in the building would be an Easter celebration...even if we had to wait until May! Now I realize more than ever that we Christians celebrate the Risen Christ wherever and whenever we've chosen to follow Him.
What a joy it will be to pop in on a Sunday someday. I may hide in the balcony, just so I can see and hear and give thanks to God for every single one of you.
Peace and blessings. Stay safe.
Yours faithfully,
|

Join us this Sunday, November 29 as we observe Celebration Sunday. Most years we would have asked people to bring their pledges forward during the church service and celebrated with a fun lunch after church, but it's 2020 and that can't happen. We chose that day because it's the First Sunday of Advent and marks the beginning of a new church year. It seems to be an appropriate time as we look forward to 2021 with a new Rector arriving and a commitment to "Imagine" St. Benedict's and what it can be. If you have already committed to pledging for next year we thank you very much.
On Sunday you can make your commitment by going online or by driving by the church between 11:30-12:30 and putting your pledge card in a basket at the front door. At the same time you can physically give of yourself by donating blood. (see below)
As we continue in this transition time we are beginning our Stewardship Season. As you know our theme this year is "IMAGINE St. Benedict's" as we look forward to 2021. 2020 has provided us the time for reflection and for imagining what St. B's can become in the coming year.
If you have not received a letter with a gift from the Stewardship Committee, please email Monty at monty@mysaintb.org and we will send you one.
We have received $162,360 from 34 pledges so far. Thank you to those who have already pledged. Please make sure to get yours in so it can be counted. You may mail the pledge card to church or pledge online at mysaintb.org/giving.

Although we have not been gathering in the church, we continue to rely on your generous giving to support our wonderful staff, our ministries, and to maintain a solid foundation into which we will soon welcome a new rector.
The current financial situation at St. Benedict's is not trending well. Year to date we have received $328,251 on a budget of $387,828. Expenses are running below budget also which does help. Please help by bringing your pledge current.
If you are able to keep up your pledge or make loose offerings, there are three ways.
2. Mail a check to the church, 2160 Cooper Lake Rd SE, Smyrna, GA 30080.
The mail is checked regularly.
3. Set up automatic payments through your own bank.
We appreciate your prayers and all the ways you give to Christ's ministry.

A reminder to all parishioners that St. Benedict's is committed to the various care needs of its member families. A dedicated group of volunteers are continuing to offer their time to serve our church community within various pastoral care capacities, including prayer requests, meal delivery and help to families in need, Eucharistic visits with Diocesan-approved safe protocols, and more.
Do not hesitate to reach out to Kerry Thomas or Anna Best about Pastoral care needs for yourself, your family, or your friends. We are here to help and serve!
Additionally, Georgia's Department of Behavioral Health has established an emotional support line for individuals that may not need crisis care but do find themselves in need of emotional connection. Georgia's Crisis and Access Line can be accessed at 1-800-715-4225, or by downloading the MYGCAL app for text and chatting if there is a crisis. This is a free, confidential 24/7 hour crisis line staffed by licensed clinicians year round.
