Mo. Jenna on Conversations with Our Priests
|
|
Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7:00 pm
Join Mother Jenna and The Rev. Greg Tallant (Jenna's former rector and friend) for an episode of Conversations with Our Priests, presented by the Cathedral Bookstore. Our topic is No Cradles: Coming to Priesthood from Other Traditions; we'll talk about how growing up practicing different religious traditions (Jewish and Southern Baptist) has formed us as Episcopalians, and the glorious diversity or religious formation that enriches the Episcopal Church!
If you miss it, you can catch it later on the Cathedral Bookstore's website.

Baptism is full initiation, by water and the Holy Spirit, into Christ's body the church. People of all ages are baptized at St. Benedict's. If you desire Holy Baptism for you or your child, or are even just curious about baptism, please reach out to Mo. Jenna. I am trying to get a sense of how many folks might be desiring baptism this Eastertide and beyond.

Outdoor Church Service - 2:00 pm
|
|
Celebrate Holy Eucharist together in person every Sunday at 2:00 pm in the upper lot. If the weather is bad, we'll send an email cancelling by 11:00 am that day.
Please register ahead of time. We are limited to 50 folks per service. Please wear a mask, dress for the weather, and bring a chair and a Book of Common Prayer if you have one. Also: Valerie will be leading us in music some weeks; if you are a musician of any variety, we'd love to have you take a week to offer some simple music for our outdoor worship. Please be in touch with Valerie or Mother Jenna.

Sundays 9:30 a.m.
Adult formation this week will be a discussion of Lent: Mother Jenna will share a brief historical and theological reflection, and an invitation to discuss what is meaningful to you about this season. Join us on Zoom at 9:30.
Links to join will be sent in Saturday's email.

We are introducing a Lenten calendar for your kids to peruse during this season! It works just like a virtual Advent calendar-- open the door corresponding to the current day of Lent. There will be an image, or a song, or a read-aloud based on the lectionary readings of the day. I hope this will help your children spend a little time each day thinking about what Lent means to them. You can find the calendar HERE.

St. Benedict's Youth Gathering IN PERSON
|
|
Sunday, February 28: 4:00-5:00 pm
Plan to gather on the blacktop on February 28 to hang out around the fire! All 6th-12th graders are welcome.
We'll reconnect and catch up (it's been a minute since you've been able to be together!), get a chance to get to know Mo. Jenna, dwell in God's word together with a simple bible study/devotion, and share some s'mores. We'll stay safe and distanced, but man it'll be good to be with one another. Bring a mask, a bible and a camp chair if you have one. Please let us know if you're coming: you can pre-register below, but it's ok to just show up, too. We'll just need to get your contact information in case we need to contact trace. And mark your calendar, the next one will be March 28 from 4:00-5:00! Please contact Mo. Jenna with any questions at jenna@mysaintb.org

Sunday, March 7, 2021
Given the ongoing challenge of COVID-19, this year's Hunger Walk Run will take place VIRTUALLY. Even though we can't gather in person, the pressing need to raise funds and awareness for hunger in Georgia has not diminished. Thank you to those who have already set up their teams to continue the fight against hunger!
In addition to the virtual event, we will also be sharing a youth-led worship service on ECF's YouTube channel with a sermon by the Rt. Rev. Robert C. Wright. This service will be shared at 1pm, and the Hunger Walk Run will begin shortly after that!

Sign up for a round of golf with your St. B's friends at Indian Hills Country Club on April 19.
If you don't play golf but still want to help raise money for the Outreach ministries of St. B's, find a local business to be a sponsor, or sign up for a sponsorship yourself. Thanks to Zag Equipment Sales (Tim Gould) and K-9 Coach (Amber & Jarette Burckhalter) for already signing up as sponsors.
Please know that due to COVID restrictions we are delaying the Low Country Boil Dinner but will be back in August 28, 2021.

Due to the pandemic, the Golf Tournament and Auction will be taking place in separate months. Our goal is to get further along in the pandemic and vaccinations, so we can have an in-person dinner and auction. However, we’re STILL looking for talented individuals to serve on the Auction/Dinner Committee.
If helping with events is something you enjoy, we can certainly put your skills to work. Contact Bob Porter (770-712-9984) or Robin Cubbage (404-276-5345) for details.

Year End Financial Report
|
|
St. Benedict's ended the year 12/31/20 with Total Income of $543,019 and Total Expenses of $435,290 yielding a Net Income of $98,729.
The Total Income figure breaks down into:
Non-Pledge - $ 39,441
Other Income - $ 50,950 - This figure included a Funds Transfer from the school which will not be available going forward
Pledge - $443,627
The Total Expense figure was significantly lower than budgeted basically because we were not in the building or conducting our usual services and other programs. Payroll was the one category that was basically on budget.
The Vestry, Stewardship Committee and the Finance Committee are working on the budget for 2021. We plan to provide more timely financial information to you during the coming year. Please consider how you might be able to contribute to build and grow our financial future.

A reminder to all parishioners that St. Benedict's is committed to the various care needs of its member families. A dedicated group of volunteers are continuing to offer their time to serve our church community within various pastoral care capacities, including prayer requests, meal delivery and help to families in need, Eucharistic visits with Diocesan-approved safe protocols, and more.
Do not hesitate to reach out to Kerry Thomas or Anna Best about Pastoral care needs for yourself, your family, or your friends. We are here to help and serve!
Additionally, Georgia's Department of Behavioral Health has established an emotional support line for individuals that may not need crisis care but do find themselves in need of emotional connection, 1-800-715-4225, or by the MYGCAL app for text and chatting if there is a crisis. This is a free, confidential 24/7 hour crisis line staffed by licensed clinicians year round.
