Baptism is full initiation, by water and the Holy Spirit, into Christ's body the church. People of all ages are baptized at St. Benedict's. If you desire Holy Baptism for you or your child, or are even just curious about baptism, please reach out to Mo. Jenna. I am trying to get a sense of how many folks might be desiring baptism this Eastertide and beyond.

Begin a Holy Lent with worship on Ash Wednesday. It’s a chance to come before God in repentance, to remember our own mortality (which may feel especially acute this year!), and prepare for the celebration of Jesus’s resurrection at Easter. In both fast and feast, we find our hope in Jesus, and this cycle of Lent, Holy Week, and Easter is one way we know the truth of that Paschal Mystery—Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again—
in our bodies and souls. Like so much else, it’ll look a little different this year, but I hope you’ll join us.
In-Person, Outdoor Worship:
7:30 am on the blacktop
Liturgy of the Day with Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes
4:30-5:15 pm on the blacktop
Kids and Families Observance with Imposition of Ashes
6:30 pm (TBD; outdoors on St. B’s campus)
Liturgy of the Day with Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes
Pre-registration for the in-person options is necessary; you must wear a mask. Please bring a chair and dress for the weather. Register below.

Facebook and Youtube premiere: Proper Liturgy of the Day. Find us on facebook and youtube.
“During these days, therefore, let us add something to the usual measure of our service, such as private prayers and abstinence from food and drink, that each one, of his own free will and with the joy of the Holy Spirit, may offer God something over and above the measure appointed for him. That is to say, let him deny himself some food, drink, sleep, pointless conversation and banter, and look forward to Easter with joy and spiritual longing.”

Outdoor Church Service - 2:00 pm
|
|
While we will continue with our facebook stream on Sunday mornings, we will also celebrate Holy Eucharist together in person every Sunday at 2:00 pm in the upper lot. If the weather is bad, we'll send an email cancelling by 11:00 am that day.
You must register ahead of time and there is a 50 person limit per service. The service is just under an hour, and there's time to visit with one another in a safe way.
Please wear a mask, dress for the weather, and bring a chair and a Book of Common Prayer if you have one. Also: Valerie will be leading us in music some weeks; if you are a musician of any variety, we'd love to have you take a week to offer some simple music for our outdoor worship. Please be in touch with Valerie or Mother Jenna.

Sundays 9:30 a.m.
Join treasurer Scott Stewart, senior warden and stewardship chair Ann Canipe, and Mother Jenna for a presentation and discussion of the proposed 2021 budget. See Ann's note below for more information. I hope you'll take this opportunity to learn more about how our resources glorify God, the financial life of St. Benedict's in this complicated year, and to reflect on the generosity of the St. B's community.
Links to join will be sent in Saturday's email.

The Finance Committee has presented a draft budget for 2021 to the Vestry. For this year there is good news and there is not so good news.
St. Benedict’s like most other churches has been impacted by the pandemic and we had the additional impact of a long transition time. January brought an end to the transition period with the arrival of our new rector Jenna and good news on the pandemic front as parishioners and others began receiving the vaccine.
Our income items are pledge income, non-pledge income (cash in the plate and gifts from individuals who haven’t pledged) and other income. Pledge income represents approximately 85% of the total income budget. We appreciate the generosity of those families who were able to make a pledge. To date we have received 86 pledges for a total of $387,200 which represents a slight increase from last year for those same pledges. However, the total pledged income is 25% below 2020 pledges. We understand that many people this year are not able to make a commitment, but we do hope that you will share as you able with your church.
The expense items include salaries, the diocesan pledge, building expenses, mission and other miscellaneous expenses. These items remained basically the same as 2020 except for the addition of the rector’s salary.
The proposed budget is a deficit budget, but in thanks for prior years’ surplus there is an excellent cash reserve to cover this budget shortfall. The Finance Committee, Stewardship Committee and Vestry take this seriously and hope to begin now rebuilding our church finances. This work will need participation from all of us.
For more in-depth information please join the Adult Formation group at 10:30 Sunday Feb. 14 to hear from Jenna, Scott Stewart, the treasurer, and Ann Canipe, Sr. Warden.

St. Benedict's Youth Gathering IN PERSON
|
|
Sunday, February 28: 4:00-5:00 pm
Plan to gather on the blacktop on February 28 to hang out around the fire! All 6th-12th graders are welcome.
We'll reconnect and catch up (it's been a minute since you've been able to be together!), get a chance to get to know Mo. Jenna, dwell in God's word together with a simple bible study/devotion, and share some s'mores. We'll stay safe and distanced, but man it'll be good to be with one another. Bring a mask, a bible and a camp chair if you have one. Please let us know if you're coming: you can pre-register below, but it's ok to just show up, too. We'll just need to get your contact information in case we need to contact trace. And mark your calendar, the next one will be March 28 from 4:00-5:00! Please contact Mo. Jenna with any questions at jenna@mysaintb.org

Given the ongoing challenge of COVID-19, this year's Hunger Walk Run will take place VIRTUALLY. Even though we can't gather in person, the pressing need to raise funds and awareness for hunger in Georgia has not diminished. Thank you to those who have already set up their teams to continue the fight against hunger!
In addition to the virtual event, we will also be sharing a youth-led worship service on ECF's YouTube channel with a sermon by the Rt. Rev. Robert C. Wright. This service will be shared at 1pm, and the Hunger Walk Run will begin shortly after that!

Sign up for a round of golf with your St. B's friends at Indian Hills Country Club on April 19.
If you don't play golf but still want to help raise money for the Outreach ministries of St. B's, find a local business to be a sponsor, or sign up for a sponsorship yourself. Thanks to Zag Equipment Sales (Tim Gould) and K-9 Coach (Amber & Jarette Burckhalter) for already signing up as sponsors.
Please know that due to COVID restrictions we are delaying the Low Country Boil Dinner but will be back in August 28, 2021.

Due to the pandemic, the Golf Tournament and Auction will be taking place in separate months. Our goal is to get further along in the pandemic and vaccinations, so we can have an in-person dinner and auction. However, we’re STILL looking for talented individuals to serve on the Auction/Dinner Committee.
If helping with events is something you enjoy, we can certainly put your skills to work. Contact Bob Porter (770-712-9984) or Robin Cubbage (404-276-5345) for details.

Year End Financial Report
|
|
St. Benedict's ended the year 12/31/20 with Total Income of $543,019 and Total Expenses of $435,290 yielding a Net Income of $98,729.
The Total Income figure breaks down into:
Non-Pledge - $ 39,441
Other Income - $ 50,950 - This figure included a Funds Transfer from the school which will not be available going forward
Pledge - $443,627
The Total Expense figure was significantly lower than budgeted basically because we were not in the building or conducting our usual services and other programs. Payroll was the one category that was basically on budget.
The Vestry, Stewardship Committee and the Finance Committee are working on the budget for 2021. We plan to provide more timely financial information to you during the coming year. Please consider how you might be able to contribute to build and grow our financial future.

A reminder to all parishioners that St. Benedict's is committed to the various care needs of its member families. A dedicated group of volunteers are continuing to offer their time to serve our church community within various pastoral care capacities, including prayer requests, meal delivery and help to families in need, Eucharistic visits with Diocesan-approved safe protocols, and more.
Do not hesitate to reach out to Kerry Thomas or Anna Best about Pastoral care needs for yourself, your family, or your friends. We are here to help and serve!
Additionally, Georgia's Department of Behavioral Health has established an emotional support line for individuals that may not need crisis care but do find themselves in need of emotional connection. Georgia's Crisis and Access Line can be accessed at 1-800-715-4225, or by downloading the MYGCAL app for text and chatting if there is a crisis. This is a free, confidential 24/7 hour crisis line staffed by licensed clinicians year round.
