Begin a Holy Lent with worship on Ash Wednesday. It’s a chance to come before God in repentance, to remember our own mortality (which may feel especially acute this year!), and prepare for the celebration of Jesus’s resurrection at Easter. In both fast and feast, we find our hope in Jesus, and this cycle of Lent, Holy Week, and Easter is one way we know the truth of that Paschal Mystery—Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again—
in our bodies and souls. Like so much else, it’ll look a little different this year, but I hope you’ll join us.
In-Person, Outdoor Worship:
7:30 am on the blacktop
Liturgy of the Day with Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes
4:30-5:15 pm on the blacktop
Kids and Families Observance with Imposition of Ashes
6:30 pm (TBD; outdoors on St. B’s campus)
Liturgy of the Day with Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes
Pre-registration for the in-person options is necessary; you must wear a mask. Please bring a chair and dress for the weather. Register below.

Facebook and Youtube premiere: Proper Liturgy of the Day. Find us on facebook and youtube.
“During these days, therefore, let us add something to the usual measure of our service, such as private prayers and abstinence from food and drink, that each one, of his own free will and with the joy of the Holy Spirit, may offer God something over and above the measure appointed for him. That is to say, let him deny himself some food, drink, sleep, pointless conversation and banter, and look forward to Easter with joy and spiritual longing.”

Outdoor Church Service - 2:00 pm
|
|
While we will continue with our facebook stream on Sunday mornings, we will also celebrate Holy Eucharist together in person (outdoors, masked and distanced) every Sunday at 2:00 pm in the upper lot unless it's raining or snowing. If the weather is bad, we'll send an email cancelling by 11:00 am that day.
As per diocesan guidelines, you must register ahead of time, and we can only have 50 folks per service, but if demand is high enough, we can add a second service in the weeks to come. The service is just under an hour, and there's time to visit with one another in a safe way. Register below for this Sunday.
Please wear a mask, dress for the weather, and bring a chair and a Book of Common Prayer if you have one. Also: Valerie will be leading us in music some weeks; if you are a musician of any variety, we'd love to have you take a week to offer some simple music for our outdoor worship. Please be in touch with Valerie or Mother Jenna.

Sundays 9:30 a.m.
Join us on Zoom at 9:30! This week we'll talk about music and God! Valerie Pool, our magnificent Music Director, and Mo. Jenna host the conversation together: What's your favorite hymn? Why do you love it? What are your experiences of music in church? Tell us a story about how music-- sacred or otherwise-- helps you worship the living God.
Links to join will be sent in Saturday's email.

St. Benedict's Youth Gathering IN PERSON
|
|
Sunday, February 28: 4:00-5:00 pm
Plan to gather on the blacktop on February 28 to hang out around the fire! All 6th-12th graders are welcome.
We'll reconnect and catch up (it's been a minute since you've been able to be together!), get a chance to get to know Mo. Jenna, dwell in God's word together with a simple bible study/devotion, and share some s'mores. We'll stay safe and distanced, but man it'll be good to be with one another. Bring a mask, a bible and a camp chair if you have one. Please let us know if you're coming: you can pre-register below, but it's ok to just show up, too. We'll just need to get your contact information in case we need to contact trace. And mark your calendar, the next one will be March 28 from 4:00-5:00! Please contact Mo. Jenna with any questions at jenna@mysaintb.org

Year End Financial Report
|
|
St. Benedict's ended the year 12/31/20 with Total Income of $543,019 and Total Expenses of $435,290 yielding a Net Income of $98,729.
The Total Income figure breaks down into:
Non-Pledge - $ 39,441
Other Income - $ 50,950 - This figure included a Funds Transfer from the school which will not be available going forward
Pledge - $443,627
The Total Expense figure was significantly lower than budgeted basically because we were not in the building or conducting our usual services and other programs. Payroll was the one category that was basically on budget.
The Vestry, Stewardship Committee and the Finance Committee are working on the budget for 2021. We plan to provide more timely financial information to you during the coming year. Please consider how you might be able to contribute to build and grow our financial future.

Stewardship at St. Benedict's 2021
|
|
We have much to celebrate at St. Benedict's in January 2021. We have enthusiastically welcomed the Rev. Jenna Strizak as our new rector. We have celebrated three outdoor communion services, bundled up with smiles behind our masks. As we begin moving forward and planning for exciting times at St. Benedict's our commitment to stewardship continues. We are grateful that we have received $387,000 with 86 pledges. Thank you to those who have pledged for your generous commitment to St. Benedict's for 2021.
We invite and encourage those who haven't pledged to please join other parishioners at our church and to make a commitment to financially support the work we have before us. We receive pledges of all amounts, from a few hundred to thousands of dollars per year – whatever works best for the giver. We simply want everyone to participate and support the church.
You can pledge online below or by returning the pledge card to the church.

Be a part of making the nave beautiful for online worship. The Flower Guild is looking for volunteers to help with arranging flowers for the nave every week. If interested, contact Beth Tyler.

Although we have not been gathering in the church, we continue to rely on your generous giving to support our wonderful staff, our ministries, and to maintain a solid foundation.
The current financial situation at St. Benedict's is not trending well. Year to date we have received $328,251 on a budget of $387,828. Expenses are running below budget also which does help. Please help by bringing your pledge current.
If you are able to keep up your pledge or make loose offerings, there are three ways.
2. Mail a check to the church, 2160 Cooper Lake Rd SE, Smyrna, GA 30080.
The mail is checked regularly.
3. Set up automatic payments through your own bank.
We appreciate your prayers and all the ways you give to Christ's ministry.

A reminder to all parishioners that St. Benedict's is committed to the various care needs of its member families. A dedicated group of volunteers are continuing to offer their time to serve our church community within various pastoral care capacities, including prayer requests, meal delivery and help to families in need, Eucharistic visits with Diocesan-approved safe protocols, and more.
Do not hesitate to reach out to Kerry Thomas or Anna Best about Pastoral care needs for yourself, your family, or your friends. We are here to help and serve!
Additionally, Georgia's Department of Behavioral Health has established an emotional support line for individuals that may not need crisis care but do find themselves in need of emotional connection. Georgia's Crisis and Access Line can be accessed at 1-800-715-4225, or by downloading the MYGCAL app for text and chatting if there is a crisis. This is a free, confidential 24/7 hour crisis line staffed by licensed clinicians year round.
