CHURCH OF THE HOLY COMFORTER

January 19, 2023

Kairos Prison Ministry

The Kairos Prison Ministry has asked to hold a 4-day weekend at Leath Correctional for Women April 27 - 30, 2023. We are stepping out in faith to train our volunteers praying that we get confirmation to go inside for the 4 days.

We are inviting anyone who is interested to be a part of our team (either to go inside or be support outside). To serve inside the prison, there is a 34 hour training required. The meetings scheduled for this are Feb. 11 & 25, Mar. 11 & 25 and Apr. 1. All of these meetings will be held in Greenwood, SC from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.

If women in our parish are interested in joining our team, contact Linda Bargeron at lhbargeron@gmail.com.

The Rector's Forum

The Rector's Forum continues each Sunday morning at 9:15am in the downstairs classroom. Father Glenn is leading a combined Confirmation, Newcomers, and Rector's Forum class, discussing the book Walk in Love written by two Episcopal Priests, Rev. Melody Wilson Shrobe and Rev. Scott Gunn. The class is open to all. Books are provided.

Sunday's Worship Resource

Join us for in-person worship this Sunday at 10:30am. The service will broadcast live on our Facebook page each Sunday morning.

Heading Towards Lent

King Cakes Sunday: February 19th is the Last Sunday of Epiphany and King Cakes will be served after the service. The person who finds the Christ Child hidden in the cake wins a prize! It’s a fun way to say farewell to Epiphany.

Join us February 21st at 6:00 pm for supper, trivia and lots of fun! Tickets are $40.00 per family or $15.00 per person and will be available at the Annual Meeting. Bring a dessert to share. Tickets must be purchased in advance to insure we have enough food. Please contact Tab for more info at tcarter@augusta.edu.

If you have kept your palms from last Palm Sunday, please bring them to the Shrove Tuesday dinner on February 21st. The palms are burned at the end of the dinner for use on Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday Services: On Wednesday, February 22 we will observe Ash Wednesday services at noon and 6:30pm here in the Parish Hall. This is one of the most holy days in the church year and fasting, even a moderate fast, is suggested.

The Reconciliation of a Penitent

Father Glenn is offering "The Reconciliation of a Penitent" / i.e. individual confession. Jesus entrusted his ministry of healing and reconciliation to his original followers and to those who follow him today. Reconciliation/Confession is an opportunity, a chance to name before God and someone else the things which we are sorry for and which burden our soul and conscience. "All Can, Some Should, None Must".

Father Glenn is a clinically trained pastoral counselor. Reconciliation is free. The confidentiality of the Confessional is morally and completely absolute.

If you are interested in Reconciliation/Confession contact Father Glenn at 803-319-5296 or email him at rector@holycomforterchurch.org.

Bishop Visitation

Our Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Frank Logue, will be with us March 19, 2023. If you wish to be baptized, confirmed, or received, contact the church office at 706-210-1133 or speak with Father Glenn.
