CHURCH OF THE HOLY COMFORTER

September 22, 2022

Let’s include our community in helping raise money for Ukraine via our Baby Blanket Quilt Raffle. There are flyers in our church foyer that you can take to your hair salon, nail salon, barber shop, bank, or your favorite restaurant and ask them to display them. Raffle tickets are available in the church foyer or from Carol Kane (706-421-0558). Please help in doing whatever you can to support the people of Ukraine. The drawing will be on Sunday morning at church, November 6, 2022.

The Rector’s Forum meets this Sunday, September 25 at 9:15am for a continued discussion and study of the Henri Nouwen book, “Following Jesus: Finding our Way Home in an Age of Anxiety”. We meet in the downstairs classroom. A nursery is provided.

PARISH NEWS

Join us Thursday, September 29th from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall for Dinner Church. We will enjoy a pot luck meal with good fellowship and the Eucharist. Sign up in the foyer to bring a dish.

On Sunday, October 2 at 10:30am, we will have our annual Blessing of the Animals. Bring your well behaved pets to church that day—that’s right—you can bring your pets to church. Dogs on leashes and cats in carriers.  Following the service you can receive individual blessings for your animals.

Altar Guild is a "behind the scenes" ministry that prepares the altar for all services. No experience is needed, all training will be provided. The only prerequisite is a desire to become more involved in the church. Please prayerfully consider becoming a member of the Altar Guild. For more information contact Karen Sheppard at [email protected] or 706-631-4399.

Stewardship "Kick-off" is coming!

Our 2022 Pledge Campaign will kick-off Sunday, October 9th. Our theme this year is More Than Enough, and reminds us that in and with God and God’s grace we always have more than enough to give and to share for the sake of God’s Kingdom.

The Holy Comforter Men’s Group meets Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00pm at Pizza Central, 526 N Belair Road in Evans. Hope to see you there!

The Book Club meets Wednesday, October 12 at 10am in the Parish Hall to discuss the book, We Are All Welcome Here by Elizabeth Berg. All are welcome!

The novel features three women, each struggling against over- whelming odds for her own kind of freedom. Set in Mississippi in 1964, it is the story of a mother with polio, her black caregiver, and the 14 year old daughter caught in between of childhood and responsibility. Each will find her own path to independence, understanding, and peace. A gift to all three.

On Sunday, October 16 at 10:30am we will have a service of healing. The Healing Service is a celebration of the Eucharist and includes readings and prayers specifically geared toward healing. The service will include the offer to be anointed with Holy Oil by Father Glenn. Anointing with oil is prescribed by St. James (James 5:14) to be used for healing and recovery (physical, emotional, spiritual).
