CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED
FOR THANKSGIVING
The church office will be closed Tuesday through Friday of Thanksgiving week.

DECORATING THE CHURCH FOR ADVENT
AND MAKING ADVENT WREATHS
Advent begins Sunday, November 28. We will decorate our Chrismon Tree and make Advent wreaths. And we will be having a Advent potluck luncheon. Bring your turkey leftovers—you know you have them—for a quick, informal lunch while we prepare for Advent.

EVERY PERFECT GIFT
Every Perfect Gift has been our theme for Stewardship this year.  We’ve been reminded of all of the ways God shares God’s gifts with us and how we can be imitators of that grace. One way is through our financial gifts. We have 44 families making pledges for a total of $224,900 but will need to double that to make our 2022 goal. Please be in prayer how you may best support Holy Comforter. Submit your pledge card through the mail or online by using the link below.

A POEM FROM LAST SUNDAY
Last Sunday, Elise Cardinal presented the following poem written by her and her mom for our Stewardship Ministry Moment:

UPCOMING ADVENT EVENTS

CHILDREN'S CHURCH AND ADVENT PLUS JESSE ORNAMENTS
Come join us for Children's Church this Advent season! There will be more parables, a celebration of Thanksgiving, and a sharing of Advent traditions. Children will learn about the Advent wreath and take home a booklet to share with their families. We’ll explore other traditions, to include the Jesse Tree. Contact Mallory Halterman, mallory.halterman@gmail.com, if you want to have your very own Jesse Tree ornaments for your home!

ADVENT DEVOTIONALS
Advent is a time when we go deeper into our relationship with Jesus. Advent devotionals are a way to assist in that. Devotionals for all will be available beginning November 28.

ADVENT LESSONS AND CAROLS
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 5TH AT 10:30AM
This special service, through song and biblical readings, takes us through the story of Jesus’ Family Tree. The choir and congregation alternate between hymns. Invite someone to join us for this special service.

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
Thanks be to God we once again get to have our Children’s Christmas Pageant at our 5:30pm Family Service on December 24.  We are looking for Youth to serve as readers/narrators and/or to help with guiding/directing the younger children behind the scenes. Other volunteers are also needed Rehearsal times: TBD. Contact Mallory Halterman, mallory.halterman@gmail.com. Sign up. And we will have more information soon on getting together our all important cast!

DISCOVER ADVENT TRAIL GUIDES NEEDED
We began a beautiful tradition last year of Discovering Advent—a trail that guided you through Advent and Beyond. This will take place during Children’s Church on Sunday December 12 ad 19, but again we need volunteers, especially youth. Contact Mallory Halterman, mallory.halterman@gmail.com.

YOUTH NEWS

HOLY COMFORTER YOUTH CHRISTMAS PARTY
It’s time to party! On December 17 come to the home of youth coordination Tab Carter, at 6:00pm. Come celebrate the holiday with your craziest Christmas sweater! We will enjoy pizza & Christmas cookies, make cards for residents at the Claiborne, share a Christmas devotional, exchange fun gifts (please bring a gift $10 or less), warmup by the bonfire, and more! Parents are welcome to drop-off or stay for the fun! RSVP Tab Carter by December 15 at tcarter@augusta.edu

GIFTS FOR THE CHRIST CHILD
Each year we sponsor several families in need to help make their Christmas brighter for their children. If you are interested in ‘adopting’ a family, there is a box on the table in the foyer with a list of families and requests of gifts by the children. All requests do not need to be purchased. There are corresponding cards for each family and instructions on the back of the card. We have large bags with tags available to place gifts in. Please do not wrap gifts. We ask that all gifts be at the Church by December 5th. Questions? Contact Robert Bargeron at bargeronr@gmail.com.

THE BOOK CLUB
The Book Club meets Wednesday, December 8th at 10:00am at the church. Bring your favorite Christmas book, story or poem to share. Join us for tea, coffee, cookies and perhaps a bit of a sing-a-long.
For more information about The Book Club, contact Mary Kelly at marykelly919@comcast.net or 206-859-8418.

VESTRY NOMINATIONS
We have two vestry positions opening in January 2022. If you are interested in serving on our Vestry or nominating someone, contact our administrator, Vivian Vaiden at vivian@holycomforterchurch.org. Vestry positions are open to confirmed members of the church. If you are unsure of your membership status, our administrator can help you with that. Vestry nomination forms can be picked up in the foyer.

INTERIM RECTOR UPDATE FROM THE VESTRY
The Interim Rector search has begun. The Vestry is reviewing the names approved by the Bishop to serve as our Interim Rector after The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Taylor retires in January 2022. We had our second meeting Monday evening, November 8, 2021. Throughout this process, the Vestry will be employing the practice of discernment (seeking to identify God’s will and then moving with spiritual openness towards it).
Preparing for Sunday is a tool to help us prepare for Sunday worship by engaging in the assigned lessons from Scripture.

It includes an overview, a lesson introduction, a reflection, and a prayer starter. It is available on our website here.
