CHURCH OF THE HOLY COMFORTER
July 22, 2021

WHERE JESUS WALKED
Holy Comforter is offering its second pilgrimage to the Holy Land next year, lead by the rector, Cynthia Taylor along with The Rev. Donald Fishburne. May 11-20, 2022. This pilgrimage is not just for our church but for anyone who wants to experience the spiritual trip of a lifetime. We will prayerfully visit The Galilee, including Magdala, Nazareth, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and more. If you wish, you can take an optional extension to Petra and other sites. Further details can be found in the brochures in the foyer and here.

THE BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS
We will have our annual Blessing of the Backpacks on Sunday, August 8 at our 10:30am worship service. Bring your school backpacks to be blessed. All participants will receive a gift for the school year. This is for all persons involved in the ministry of teaching and for all ages. Additionally, bring school supplies which we will share with our partner, Martinez Elementary School.

(South Carolina has a tax-free weekend on school supplies August 6-8.)
It is our great joy to offer The Blessing of Expectant Parents on Sunday, August 22 during our 10:30 am service. If you would like to be part of the service, contact the church office at 706-210-1133.
The Rt. Rev. Frank Logue will make his first official visit to Holy Comforter as our new bishop of the Diocese of Georgia on All Saint’s Sunday, November 7. We will be offering the Sacrament of Confirmation at that time. Confirmation is when a person formally joins the Episcopal Church. Classes for those who wish to be confirmed or who desire just to learn more about the Episcopal Church will be offered this fall. More details soon.

HOLY COMFORTER CHOIR RESUMES
It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to have choir rehearsals! We are restarting our choir on Wednesday, August 4. If you love to sing and want to be part of our choir, contact our Music Director, Dr. Brad Green at dr.blgreen@gmail.com or call 1-806-283-4495.

BOOK CLUB
stack_of_books.jpg
We are having an organizational meeting for the book club on Wednesday, August 11 at 10am in the church Parish Hall. We will discuss when, where, and how often to meet. Participants are asked to bring suggestions of fiction and nonfiction books to consider. We ask that they have a spiritual component for discussion. Any questions can be directed to Mary Kelly at marykelly919@comcast.net or 206-859-8418.

BAKERS NEEDED
Now that we have returned to in person worship, the church is in need of volunteers to help make altar bread for each Sunday. There is a sign up sheet in the foyer for you to volunteer. Please add your contact information (email and cell #) when you sign up and I'll be happy to send a reminder. This is a ministry that is fun to do with children, grandchildren or just by yourself. The whole process only takes about 20-30 minutes. The recipe is provided on the sign up sheet (small copies are on the clipboard too) for you to take with you.  It is also available here.

Please think about this and prayerfully consider helping with this ministry. If you have any questions, contact Linda Bargeron at lhbargeron@gmail.com or text or call at 706-267-8668.
Preparing for Sunday is a tool to help us prepare for Sunday worship by engaging in the assigned lessons from Scripture.

It includes an overview, a lesson introduction, a reflection, and a prayer starter. It is available on our website here.

Join us for in-person worship this Sunday at 10:30am. The service will continue to be broadcast live on our Facebook page at 10:30am each Sunday morning.
