CHURCH OF THE HOLY COMFORTER
June 23, 2022

THIS SUNDAY
This Sunday, June 26th, we celebrate God and Country with a patriotic service, lunch, and concert. We are joined by a full concert band and choir of guest musicians from all over! In addition to our regular worship service, there will be a post-service musical celebration along with a BBQ lunch catered by Shane’s Rib Shack.

Worship Resource for this Sunday

Join us for in-person worship this Sunday at 10:30am. The service will continue to be broadcast live on our Facebook page each Sunday morning.
PARISH NEWS
Thank You to Griff Kelly for creating the Prayer Board. As you enter the Church you will see the Prayer Board to your right. You may write a prayer on the white tag provided and hang the prayer on the board. This provides an opportunity for the community to share prayer needs and pray for one another’s needs.

DONATIONS NEEDED:
FOR THE MASTER'S TABLE MINISTRY
The Master's Table Ministry offers the homeless a place to shower and clean up on certain days. One of our missions is to help supply items for this service. The most needed items at this time are:

White cotton socks for men/women
(The best place to purchase these are Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, Big Lots, etc.)

Travel size toothpaste

Individually packaged toothbrushes
(not toothbrushes sold in bulk packages with more than one toothbrush included)

All items must be new and unopened. If you have any of these items and would like to share them with the Master's Table, please bring them to Holy Comforter. Place items in the red container under the kitchen sink.
The Book Club meets Wednesday, July 13th at 10am in the Parish Hall. We will be discussing American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. “The Grapes of Wrath for Our Times,” it is the story of an accomplished  woman and her son escaping the revenge of a drug cartel leader. They journey from Acapulco to the US border.
The next meeting of the Holy Comforter Men’s Group is Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00pm at Pizza Central, 526 N Belair Road in Evans. See you there!
Come to Dinner Church on Wednesday, July 27th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. We will enjoy a pot luck meal with some good fellowship, a mini sermon and the Eucharist in the middle of the meal, prior to desert. Enjoy this opportunity to connect across a meal and to share the meal of Jesus together.
We’ll have our annual Blessing of the Backpacks Sunday, July 31 at 10:30am. This is for all who are involved in education-students, teachers, administrators. Please bring donations of paper, pencils, composition books, backpacks, folders, etc. which will go to our partner, Martinez Elementary School.
If you love to sing and would like to be part of our Holy Comforter Choir, contact Dr. Brad Green at dr.blgreen@gmail.com. Rehearsals begin Wednesday, August 3 at 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall.
If you are interested in serving on the Welcome Team please see Father Glenn. The Welcome Team servants take a decorative bag, including a Holy Comforter mug and information about the parish, to folks after worship on the day they visit for the first time and provide a personal "Welcome".

OUR MENTORING PROGRAM
End of the year update: As you know Covid squashed our program this year. With that being said, we were able to provide new reading books to any child at Martinez Elementary that could not afford one during their annual book fair! We also provided school supplies at the beginning of the year for this school.

At Harlem High School we were able to provide glasses for two students who are being taken care of by their aunt. She was very appreciative of the support and love from our church! We also were able to gift a senior with a computer for her studies at college. The look on her face said it all! A great big thanks to Jo Rayfield for always answering my requests! If you would like to donate to the program, designate it to the mentoring program! Thank you from the bottom of my heart with all of the help and support! - Love and prayers, Jeanette James
